Just got the news an acquaintance of mine just got a direct commission into Military Intelligence, I'm assuming she is working propaganda because she was in marketing as a civilian. Back in the day only chaplains, lawyers and medical professionals got those, she's 41 BTW. Apparently she wrote her representative and a waiver was granted for a direct commission. Combine this with the fact they are reducing BCT "stress levels" and all I can say is "hell in a handbasket."

Is she active or National Guard? It's less rare in the Guard. Exceptions have always been made, and I can see that she has the er...assets to persuade some recruiter to get her packet approved.

Nope, direct commission...like a chaplain or doctor...a two week low stress orientation to learn the basics of military rank and traditions, pathetic.

It was more about politics, she wrote her represenative, a liberal female, and got a pass. At the least she should attend OCS to prove herself worthy of wearing the rank. Understanding how to sell crap to Americans doesn't transfer to selling to Iraqi or Afghan people.

I don't know what she has to gain by skipping OCS. Age I guess, she probably would have a hard time getting through it although she doesn't appear to be in bad shape.

I'm surprised she's not attending the MI Officer's Basic course, it's only a few months and it would teach her how to do her job.

Damn why do you have to keep slamming the Army? You already said that some Congressperson broke the rules to get her in.

Who knows? Maybe the Army will teach her a few things about character. It has happened before.

My point, I looked into OCS and was in ROTC having been a combat veteran and NCO. It just seems wrong to give a pass on this...leaders need to be tested.

Yep, you clearly would have made a much better Officer than she will. The Army misses out on a lot of good talent.
