Would you use a credit card to.....

Depends on the source. Large somes of cash sometimes arouse suspicion. With western union and cash amount over 3000$ is subject to more strict security. Any amount under 1000$ doesn't even require any id as long as they answer the test question. I would only probly use a credit card if i really trusted the source and was doing the tranfer online.

agreed on all of that.....except the test question. you need ID for sure on ALL online transactions to pick it up (online means Credit card). even five dollars. done it many times, and even called WU myself twice and got the same answer from two different people.

But if you use cash and the amount is under 1000 then there is no id required with a test question.

yes, but we are talking online and CC here. if your doing cash, no need to bother with online. just walk down to the market and do it there. unless you are doing a bank transfer to WU or something online. basically......you want test question, you do cash. you want CC and online, you will be waiting for the test question screen to pop up for a loooooooooooooong time....cuz it isn't there. :D :D

So if I want to use a CC do I need to check with the source if he's willing to use ID to pick it up, no matter what the amount is?

yep. usually if they know you, or if you are convincing enough.....they will get one of their "guys" to go pick it up with their actual ID. i did it twice with "A". usually they don't want to lose a sale or a customer, so make it like its the only way you can do it.

If the amount is not too high, I would recommend getting a cash advance and using fake sender info! If your source is willing to use the "Test Question Option," he will not need an I.D. either. Be prepared to pay extra for the casha advance though. Just somethings to think about.

I would go pay cash at a WU office if I were you. Its cheaper that way. If you insist on using a credit card, use a debit card if you have one. If you use a CC, WU treats it like a cash advance so not only are you going to have higher WU charges than you would with cash but you will also have cash advance charges and interest charges on your CC.

It cost me $15 to send $98 WU when paying cash. They charged me $20 using my CC online and then my CC company charged me a $5 cash advance fee + another $4 0r $5 in interest.

also if you have a debit card use that instead of a credit card. with a credit card it counts as a cash advance, and they start charging you interest on it right away/ WIth a debit card there is no interest. Cash advance rates can be as high as 19%, thats rape in my book

all my CC's never charged me jack as far as a cash advance or any other fee. nor did they charge me $20 extra (WU). i got a $15 fee for like $100 just like you. not sure why you got raped by WU and the CC company. but i can show you my reciepts if you don't believe me! :D

.....it depends on you CC.....I called WU and it's treated by your CC as a cash advance....my CC charges 3% or $5, whichever is greater and interest starts acruing immediately....you've got a good CC company you lucky bastard....

yeah, just got it (my CC bill) in the mail today. Fleet Platinum card......charged me $575, the exact total of what i paid the source. of course it was actually $525 plus $50 WU fee....................but no charge on the card. i think i used my Chase Mastercard as well, and don't think they got me for any charges as well. but don't quote me on that one.

if your cc company charged you it wouldnt show up under the WU or MG charge it would be on the bottom. And they absolutely 100% charge you a finance charge for the cash advance, after all thats how they make their money. You might have an intro apr, but otherwise they certainly did. Cash advances are always a much higher apr than purchases as well, usually by about 5-6%, somewhere around 15-20%. Meaning that if you MoneyGrammed $1000, it's cost you 200 extra in interest after a year, if you didnt pay it off in full.
