Worlds Strongest Man

Keep Left

New member
I know it was on on the UK over here with the final being last night. But does anyone know anything about these people? How they train? What they take? Do they get tested?

There's never really been a lot of American people on it, most of the guys are from eastern europe or skandinavia. Why??

Cheers

Worlds strongest man? Right here:

SYDNEY, Australia (CNNSI.com) -- Hossein Rezazadeh surprised even himself when he outlifted the world's strongest men to win the Olympic super heavyweight gold

I favor the astrongman contests since they do so much more than lift a really heavy bar over their heads.

That filed is dominated by Viking types....northern European men. Which makes you wonder about all the claims that blacks are stronger.

No doubt that American blacks have a speed monopoly though.

You must have just cought the finals. We sent 5 guys this year and none of them made the finals. Hopefully I'll be at Pro Nationals where the top 5 guys make it to the Worlds. I'd love to be at the worlds in the next 5 years.

Everyone trains different. Mostly we lift 2-4x in the week then have a day just for event training.

I'd say that the average Pro Strongman takes around 1gram of test a week and that cycles higher and lower throughout the year. A pro of the past said that he used a gram a day of test with MANY other things to get ready for a contest.

I will be drug tested this year at some point as well as others in the U.S.

Remember that the U.S. gets 5 at the Worlds...I don't think that any other country in the world gets that many and there are a lot of countries. Most strongmen in Europe get full support from their government. Food, room, training halls, trainers, drugs, chemical assistants, etc... While we spend all of our time trying to catch our athletes doing something illegal...they spend their time trying to keep their athletes at the top level.

I have them all on tape...

bwaaaaa haaa haaa haaaaaa...

Seriously...I have nearly every contest that has ever taken place on video. There are so many held in Europe that it isn't even funny.

Who was the last american to win worlds?

Kaz...1981 I think...

Our best athletes are making 6-9 figures in the NFL instead of 3-5 in Strongman.

Purr..... Maricusz from Poland!! I could watch this man all day! He's soooo purty! ;-)

Seems that Ms. Mills is the only one from the good ole USA who is holding any titles for us!

BFOLD....Keep pulling, lifting, throwing, dragging and eating.... I wanna see you on these shows SOON!

That dude from Poland is a BEAST. I'm not even going to try and spell his name. I was watching the shows on ESPN yesterday when he was pulling the train car. He kept right on pulling while throwing up. Now, that's hardcore.

I agree, Powerslave! Marciusz(sp) is in awesome shape! I do not think I've ever seen a strongman so ripppppped! Grrr. Times are changin in guess!

His dimples are amazing too...hehehe

I love watching these guys and gals on ESPN! They allllll are fantastic!

Yeah, I was watching the shows on ESPN yesterday & those guys are amazing!! It's such a shame about Johnny Perry, he was a huge guy & had some real talent.

Truly amazing displays of power.

pudzianowski is truly the man, strong as fuck and could step right onto a bodybuilding stage as far as i'm concerned. i read that he even does kyukushin karate and has boxed for several years.

Yea, Johnny P. was right on the verge off doing big time damage.

I saw the prizes last night during the finals. $34,000 for winning!? That makes the BB prizes look awesome for the Olympia and the Arnold.

Actually, Weightlifting is dominated by Euro types, of course that is changing, and so will the makeup of Strongman too.

Blacks from certain parts of Africa have a genetic advantage for building muscle... that does not mean they are the strongest group though.

Also strongman stuff is not nearly as big here as it is in europe.... so naturally we wouldn't have the quality of competitors they have over there.

pudzionowski went to prison too....fuck! i remember last year he did a punch punch round kick combo and he got retty high on the kick, freaking mpressive for his size

there was a canadian in the final....hugo gerad (sp?), he was in REALLY good fornm during the heats but it seemed to fall apart in the final....

i think there was another Canadian (u wouldnt know it because all he said was 'Quebec' about 50-60 damn times, whch basically confused all the Zaireians supporting) i think he was that dude whos name began with P that won the standing static hold. shit i remember once they did that with 2 planes trying to fly apart with one guy holding them....they should do that it looked so fucking cool

there used to be an american that used to finish in the finals but he died last year after the comp. :( big fucker too...

These guys are better athletes then half the poncy fucks they show on TV who earn 5 figure salaries weekly, half of them dont even look/act like they deserve it, these guys always cheer each iother on, and they were so great with the crowd and the people....its always good to watch strongman, im really glad they show it on TV

the strongest people in the world are Icelanders. :D

Magnús Ver is a strong fellow. Saw the local strongman show yesterday, replay of last summers games. Love it.

All-time greatest strongman Jon-Pall Sigmarsson. 4 x World Champion, and had also karate backgroud. Mariuz reminds me of him.

ahola performs assistive duties on WSM now, i see him carrying the rope on the truck pull in alot of competitions.

does anyone know what pudzionowski weighed in 2002? i am watching the 2003 final and it says he's 288, but i am pretty sure he was only like 267 in 2002, so thats 20 lbs of mostly lean mass he must've put on. I think pudzionowski might be a serial winner like kazmier or that scandanavian guy i cant remember, winning 3-4 WSM competetions back to back.

Also why are all the WSM competitors so fat? like Glenn Ross, if he lost 100 lbs of fat that would be 100 fewer pounds he'd have to carry during squats, farmers walk, dragging the anchor, lifting the box up the stairs, etc. Strategically being fat seems like such a bad idea it slows you down and makes you spend more muscle carrying yourself rather than the weight but almost all the competitors other than pudzionowski are at least 20%.

and why did pudzionowski go to prison?

i can;t remember, he did say on the show as i think

I was wondering the same about guys like glen ross....i think he is like the old school style of strongman (when they used to be fat), whereas nowadays u have to be fit as well as strong. i guess he could change his physique but he'd have to take time off from the stronest man due to all the muscle/strength he'd lose im sure

Did anyone watch Karlson in the 2003 WSM? he was all fucked up, i am guessing something really bad happened in his personal life as he didn't seem into the competetion that year. He wasn't jumping around screaming viking power like he normally is, he was fucking up in all the competitions and came in at 9th i think.

Yep...he gained around 20 pounds of lean muscle in a year. Not sure if Mariuz will be back anymore, for a while. Dymek (the other Polish guy) was banned from IFSA and decided to start his own strongman organization. Mariuz signed with Dymek 2 weeks ago and not the IFSA.

Don't forget that those guys are the best in the world. They beat SO many people JUST to get there. The extra weight helps with strength and the static events. Over the past few years, Strongman has become more of an athletic venture rather than a pure power sport. The athletes have to move, run, jump, etc...which I think is good.

Most of the people in the WSM finals were probably under 20%. Svend is and IFBB Pro and set a few world records in powerlifting before he became a Strongman. He still has abs and a lot of the others do too. These guys could care less what they look like. They only care about how they perform. Having abs or a body fat % that is under 12 has NO function for them.

Basically Mariuz was supported by the Mafia in Poland. He did poorly, for him, in his first WSM. Shortly after that he was drunk driving and hit/killed a man. They take that seriously in Poland...and the Mafia did not stick up for him and keep him out of jail.

hmmm haven't noticed that myself....any clue as to why he stopped competing?
oh and bfold (or anyone else who knows), do you know why jarek dimek was banned?

Also where were the dutch guys... i guess we only really had berend venenberg and wout zijlstra and they both got old.

Doesnt zijlstra however still hold the world record in the farmers walk?

robert jan; that's in the weight for height contest (record of zijlstra). the last WSM that came from holland was ted van de parre, damn...that was like 10 years ago i believe.

Honestly...competing at THAT level must be hard on the body. He had won nearly everything for a while...

He was in a movie, played pro hockey, and works for the IFSA.

No idea why Dymek was banned. Glenn Ross was banned this year for taking off Douglas Edmond's (the guy who runs THAT contest and the IFSA) hat and throwing it in a fire...lol.

lol yeah he must've..
ahola was in a movie? well i'll be damned.
oh and thanks for answering that bfold.

I knew Jon Páll. Nice guy times ten.

I was training at his gym at the time when he came back from a WSM competetion and cut for a BB contest (which he won) in about 10-12 weeks. Unreal. His dedication was very inspiring. He trained Magnus Ver when Maggi was coming up in the sport, it was 'interesting' to see those to scream at each other when doing deadlifts and squats.

Banned for removing and burning a hat?? Kinda petty........but I guess it is better than two guys that size coming to blows.
