Working out in the mornings

Is it better to work out in the morning or the evenning? I've been wondering about this. I'm starting college pretty soon and was thinking of scheduling my classes so that I can get some working out done in the morning time before classes. I've always worked out in the evening but am thinking of working out in the morning from on now. What do yall think? Thanks in advance.

Hi Digi

Personally there are pros and cons about working out in the morning, IMO morning workouts is pants because your body needs time to wake up like your immune system for example, your energy levels are low due to a night of sleeping with no food fuel, therefore, when you get to the gym you lift the weights half heartedy because your body muscle mechanisms are up for it. And its just a waste of energy, you may as well save it for late afternoon or evening workouts!!
Also, from what i've read we are at our strongest between noon and early evenings thats when I hit the gym and go all out!!
This is just my personal opinion but diff individuals might be different, they might actually find it better workin out in the morning then evenings or vice versa.

Why dont you test it out and do a workout in the morning and on another day do a workout in the evening and see which time of the day you are at your strongest. Cos like I said you want to be at your strongest to lift heavy, eat right, sleep right and grow muscles!!

peace bro :)

your body is also more relaxed and flexible later in the day. i used to work out in the morning and i always ended up pulling something, even though i would do plenty of cardio warm up and stretching.

my preference is now for the late afternoon before the evening crowds get there.

If you are wanting to cut up, then workout in the mornings. You will burn more cals that way, but if your goal is to bulk up and bodybuild those muscles, I would say it is best to work out in the afternoons. You can also do a split routine such as chest in the morning, tri's in the afternoon/evening. A lot of pro's split their routines to twice a day, but they are lifting really heavy. If you did this, you could be out of the gym in 30 mins in am and 30 mins in pm.

working out in the morning usually is for getting cut...however, a pro of the mornings is that you have the rest of the day to eat and recover...sometimes it can be tougher at night to get all your meals in, especially if you are going out because you are in college...night gets you more mass

i used to workout in the mornings first semester last year, and didnt gain a single pound in that time.. well i realized that i wasnt eating enough, wasnt pushing hard enough, and really just kidna got stuck where i was.. it was nice to get it out of the way, but when i switch to afternoons this spring, i noticed that my workouts were MUCH more intense. i felt like i had so much more energy and stored fuel for heavy lifting.. i concluded that by the time i worked out in the morning, my body didnt have enough fuel for heavy resistance training, but early afternoon (about 1.5 hours after lunch) i was primed and ready to go.. gains came much more quickly. so i say for bulking, stick to pm, cardio leave for AM

It is really a matter of preference, and weather or not it is a viable option for you. Most people including myself, can't work out in the morning because of other conflicts (work, school, etc). I used to work out in the morning before I started working and it was great. Your energy levels are at their highest coming off of a good nights rest, giving you the ability to train really hard. But I had to adjust my training around my other reponsibilites. Eventually your body adjusts. I come home from work, take a nap and hit the gym, without the nap I'd have a shitty workout becaues I'm tired from working all day. On weekends though since I have the time, I train early. That way I have the rest of the day free, and don't have to worry that I have to hit the gym later. But ultimatley it is a matter of preference. When you feel you have the maximum energy, and are able to get the best workout. If it were a perfect world I'd be there in the morning.
