Hey listen orb, Ive studied psychopharmacology in University, benzodiazepines work on the same receptor sites as alcohol. We used to laugh that benzos are alcohol in a pill on biochemistry. The only difference is the lacking of an excitation phase as in alcohol intoxication. When coming off benzos a couple of good stiff drinks, not too much, will ease the withdrawals. Its not good to substitute but then again you should be switched to faster acting shorthalflived benzo under a doctors care.
Benzos are by far better than alcohol physically obviously, but a fourty ouncer will alleviate the symptoms, now this isnt sound medical advice, but will get you by in a pinch. Benzos and alcohol are very very similar, only benzos dont excitate and they dont rebound with more anxiety such as alcohol does.
You could also switch at some point for GAD to Buspirone but that can also lead to a "washed out" feeling or of course any mood improving drug, the most popular are the ssri's but everyone's got an asshole on that stuff, I mean opinion.
