I've been on benzodiaprenes for 7 years straight. I have generalized anxiety disorder and those that have it know what a mfugger it is. You can't make it go away on your own. No ignorant comments please. Anyway I'm coming off it and it's going to be extremely hard as I'm feeling it bad right now. Using benadryl to help ween me off.

I've had a few anxiety attacks before bro. Fuckin' worst feeling ever. Do you have them all of the time?
I had my first one while eating graduation dinner after I completed college. I couldn't breathe, my stomach was upset, sweat was beading on my forehead and I was paranoid as hell. Good luck orb!!! :Chef: :tuc:

Imagine feeling that way 24/7 and being unable to sleep a wink. I will begin to stutter as I come off of them. Weird shit. I'm not scared, the body just goes haywire like an autoimmune disorder.

My little brother gets them and they sound awful. He said it feels like you just got into a fight, the shakes, crazy feeling, etc. They got so bad for him for a while that one would hit him as he was on his way into work, he'd have to turn around, go home, and pass out for a few hours. He's finally getting treatment for them. Hope you do ok.

sorry buddy. but i'm feeling withdrawals right now, too. trying to obtain some purity.

OH MY GOD!!! This sux. I've been laying on the couch unable to move. My thoughts are scrambled and my body and mind are nearly paralyzed. I'm gonna have to believe to be able to do this. Happy b-day to you 3 at the top. It would take me ten minutes to wish each one of you a happy b-day, using this computer.

Hey listen orb, Ive studied psychopharmacology in University, benzodiazepines work on the same receptor sites as alcohol. We used to laugh that benzos are alcohol in a pill on biochemistry. The only difference is the lacking of an excitation phase as in alcohol intoxication. When coming off benzos a couple of good stiff drinks, not too much, will ease the withdrawals. Its not good to substitute but then again you should be switched to faster acting shorthalflived benzo under a doctors care.
Benzos are by far better than alcohol physically obviously, but a fourty ouncer will alleviate the symptoms, now this isnt sound medical advice, but will get you by in a pinch. Benzos and alcohol are very very similar, only benzos dont excitate and they dont rebound with more anxiety such as alcohol does.
You could also switch at some point for GAD to Buspirone but that can also lead to a "washed out" feeling or of course any mood improving drug, the most popular are the ssri's but everyone's got an asshole on that stuff, I mean opinion.
BB says drink two beers and call me in the morning

What were you taking?

I was on Paxil and it was a bitch to come off. Just cut the dose in hald a month at a time util I quit.

Now I take xanax as needed. Usually just before bed. Thats usually when my anxirty get the worst. I have kinda learned how to deal with the low levels. Keep your mind busy bro. Best thing I can do. DO something active. Don't just sit and dwell.

Detoxing from benzos can be very hard on your body (not to mention your psyche). Be careful. Are you doing this in conjunction with a Doctor's orders? There are peope who require close medical supervision when coming off those benzos. Seems like you were on them for quite a while.

I don't have medical insurance right now and it's an expense that I don't need. I don't need a doctor's supervision to get off of them, we bodybuilders are not average people. I had a dr. put me on blood pressure once because my bp was running around 150/100. It was due to stress. WHen I told the dr. I was getting off the medication because I could control the problem on my own, she said I was foolish because I had documented high blood pressure. That was nearly 10 years ago. Blood pressure hasn't been high since.

Like alcohol huh? No wonder I like them so much.

Just fucking off yourself now with an OD of your favorite benzo.

You'd be doing us and yourself a big favor.

Be sure to curse out your fucking dogs and family right before you pass out.

Are you serious? Damn. You are having a bad day. :)

biteme, going cold turkey off a benzo after that long can lead to seizures, along with the rest of it.

current guidelines suggest reducing your dose by one eighth per week until youre down to zero.

sure cold turkey might work, but a gradual reduction is the way to go, certainly.

Thanks for that excellent advice. I've started with a 50% reduction. I was taking 1mg. daily. I probably should have done it like you said. I feel okay though.

um...then take some. dont confuse the important thing (getting off the drugs) with other issues (being a stubborn bastard). really, even slowly decreasing the dose can be quite uncomfortable. apart from being a safer way to do it, weaning yourself off also allows you to maintain normal function...since youre useless as an anxious, twitchy bag of nerves curled up on your couch, or unable to sleep. that can set off another set of consequences

more haste, less speed :)

cheerios :)

pm me if you want details, but at the end of the day, if you were given an anti anxiety benzo, you have to be on a longish half life agent, and therefore, gradual reduction as mentioned previously will be fine
