No experience myself but I can tell you it's way weird when you can hit a free zone just walking around a neighborhood and pickup free signals on your PDA or wireless lan.
Some cleaned info from our wireless providers... We offer blackberry, PDA and Laptop wireless access.
We also require VPN s/w and SecureID card authentication to access our Intranet.

Four Wireless Network options are now available. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx is pleased to make a total of four wireless options available to our customers. Two of these options allow you to use an existing 19.2 kbs modem, while the two new next generation options require that you purchase a new wireless modem.
Options using Existing Hardware
The two recommendations that use your existing hardware are:
Verizon 19.2 kbs service - $55/month for unlimited access with a $0.05/kb fee when roaming*
AT&T 19.2 kbs service - $54/month for unlimited access with a $0.05/kb fee when roaming*
Note: Neither Verizon nor AT&T offers a no-roaming fee plan. Verizon clients will pay roaming fees when outside the northeast (e.g., visiting Orlando or Denver), and AT&T clients will pay roaming fees when visiting the northeast (e.g., visiting Bethesda or Valley Forge). A typical user will experience a minimum 250 kb download when connecting to Email before being able to read any e-mail. This translates into a $12.50 charge to connect when roaming. Actual e-mail reading or transmitting will increase the roaming fees accordingly.
Options using "Next Generation" Networks
The two recommendations that use next generation networks are:
Verizon (40-60 kbs) service offering - $99/month for unlimited access on a code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless network. Verizon is offering an Aircard for $249 to users who commit to a one-year contract. Information regarding the Verizon CDMA network availability may be viewed at:

AT&T (38-50 kbs) service offering - $85/month for 100MB of data on a General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) network. AT&T is offering an Aircard for $299 to users who commit to a one-year contract. Information regarding AT&T GPRS network availability may be viewed at:
