Wireless cable routers?

Brand wise, you're going to get what you pay for. All the cheaper companies have upped their game do to their experience in the industry though.. i.e. dlink, linksys, smc, etc...
Make sure you go for 802.11g not b as g runs at about 6 times the speed of b. The linksys 802.11g router is not much more expensive than the B either. Remember to get 802.11 g nic cards as well so that you can take advantage of the higher speed. Even better, 802.11g is backwards compatible so it works with 802.11b nic cards as well. u can get a cheap 802.11g router for about 160

Base your purchase on necessity. You can get 802.11g wireless which supports up to 54 Mbps. But what are you going to use it for??? If you are using the wireless for mainly broadband internet sharing then 802.11b which is 11 Mbps is plenty fast enough.

If you plan on transferring large files on your internal network over wireless, then wireless-g would be a better idea.

I'll agree though that the price for wireless-g is coming down. You can get a Linksys wireless-g router for about $150, wireless-b is around $80-90. The wireless-g adapters are little pricey though, in the $80-90 range a piece, sometimes more.

As for myself, I've had my Linksys wireless-b router up for about 4 months consistently now with my online cable connection with 5 computer and my PS2 all going through it, both wired and wireless computers.

it takes time to phase new protocals in, you'd be foolish to not get the newest, as it is backwards compatible. There are sales on 802.11g equipment too that make it almost as cheap as b. I say go g.
