Wireless AC adaptors for laptops

jnuts said:
They are called "batteries"

But they die. :bawling:

Speaking of batteries - I just bought a new one and it responded just like the old one and I was told I need a new system board.

What do you think?

Are you sure it was a brand new battery? (not refurb / bought of ebay)

Seems drastic to get a new mobo for a battery problem.

How old is the laptop?

17 months old.

Oh and the battery light that is usually green was blinking amber and green with either battery - did I mention that?

Hmmm.... I wonder if the AC adapter has shit the bed. Any problems when it's plugged in to AC power?

You'll have to check with samoth on this, but I'm pretty sure that transmitting energy wirelessly (ie beaming it) violates a few laws of physics, not to mention the wave/particle duality of light, the 5th commandment and a host of other technical issues.

Dell Inspiron laptops are cheap and good - that's what you will think for the first few months of use. And after that, you go bonkers. Firstly, right after 4 months of usage, the motherboard broke down - the battery was unable to charge and the whole system could not power on. Extended my warranty and they fixed the motherboard for me. The same problem came again in a shorter period of time - 3 months and they changed the part for me again alright. And now this time it occurred AGAIN in ONE month the same problem! ARGH! *Sick* of this. I haven't finished - the motherboard was replaced (Of course they must) but it came back with a faulty RAM and the technician claimed that the RAM was not from dell so I must replace on my own: What the perk was the guy saying?! It was alright when it went into the workshop. He damaged it in the servicing process, and told me to repair! Okok, I bought a RAM directly from Dell sales department, VERY unsatisfied. In a period of 5 months the computer was running smoothly when the same motherboard problem came again. It was not that the battery was unable to charge, but the LED was blinking and blinking. The guy on the helpdesk claimed that my battery was faulty and battery was not covered in the warranty. With a frown on my face, I reluctantly ordered a 12-cell battery (they told me that there were no more 8-cell battery in stock: didn't really know whether that was a lie to persuade me to buy a 12-cell) that costed me s$124.64 w/o freight charges. The day after the order for battery was processed, the dell service department gave me a call: "Hello, Mr Teo, I am afraid that it was your motherboard that was faulty instead of your battery, and I regret to inform you that the order of the battery cannot be cancelled"...!!!!!! Guess everybody knew what happened when I heard that... I've got my CPU cooler fan+heatsink, my keyboard, LCD, Motherboard and CD-ROM Drive replaced except for the piece of plastic casing of my laptop and the battery (because I am using the one that I bought myself). If I talked about all the parts that I have replaced, I am afraid that this comment would become a story. What can I do but to give a *sigh* for all dell inspiron customers? STAY AWAY FROM HELL! DO NOT GET A DELL

My CD drive sucks too.
And it runs super hot.

OY.

Maybe I will get a Sony next time.

Everybody has horror stories about brand <insert name here> laptops.

I had a Toshiba die... I've had Dells last forever.

It's kinda luck of the draw with laptops, in my experience.

Well, Nicola Tesla demonstrated a wireless energy distribution system. I'm not sure it would be safe to get between the transmitter and the receiver though.
