Windows movie maker question

I uploaded a bunch of videos I took this morning w/ my camcorder thingy. (by the way, got a great shot of this surfer pulling one of the sickest moves I have ever seen.)

I can play the video fine in WMP, but when I drag and drop the clip into WMM, I get this fucking stupit message:

The file C:\Documents and Settings\killahbee\Desktop\SMOV0021.AVI cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

I believe so. I created one vid on it a few months ago and everything worked fine. I DL'd the codec so WMP could play vids from my camcorder and it works fine; they all play audio and video. I even checked the "automatically DL codecs" in the settings for WMM and it is still giving me shit.

Goddamnit this move was SICK, I need to set it to music and show the world!!!!!!!!

If you recorded this video the same way as the one that worked......wtf. Do you have the old one so you can compare file details?

ok, looked at my old vids that worked and they are .wmv as opposed to .avi (which my new ones are in). But they all came from the same fucking camcorder. wtf

There must be a setting for which format to record in. The proof will be in the pudding my friend.

codecs with windows are annoying as shit, glad I found that.
