Windows 98 is killing me!!!!

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman

Ok...in the search for a sponsor and becomming a pro...I try to set up a website. I have a domain name already but can't figure out how to build my site or how to upload files.

I get a digital video camera and have several videos that I want to put on my site. I just found out that the software that comes with the camera will not allow audio to be captured from my camera with the video!!!!

So I need something other than Windows 98!!!!

I don't do much on my computer besides simple pics and mpegs...and spend TONS of time on Elite.

Do I need to get another software program to capture video through my usb port? Do I need another OS system?'

Money is ALWAYS a concerning factor too...

I have a PIII 500, 128 megs ram. That is about all I know...ohh..HP Pavillion.

Any advice???

that doesnt sound like a very good web server, you would need a faster machine, atleast dsl, windows 2000 with IIS. best bet is to find a cheap hosting service

Couple of questions:

What kind of camera do you have? Make, model, etc.

Who is currently hosting your domain?

For building HTML pages, Micro$oft's Front Page is a nice tool for beginners. (I'm guessing you haven't done HTML before...)

There is also a bunch of software that you can look at here to try for building HTML pages (some of which is free):

http://download.com.com/2001-2028-0.html?tag=dir

Once I see the make/model of the camera, their might be other options to getting the video into the system. We'll see...

NA already brought it up, but finding a cheap hosting place would be nice....something with a high bandwidth cap too. Got hit with and interesting bandwidth bill once, so you want to be careful there.

I'll try and help.

Happy Scrappy turned me on to www.pair.com That is where I got my domain set up at.

I just can't figure out how to upload my video files or to build a web page. I know nothing about it.

My camera is a Sony 140 I think. Digital camcorder...has usb output as well as a firewire output. Don't have firewire stuff on my computer though.

I have a fast connection though...cable.

Upload is probably handled with a FTP client. WsFTp, CuteFTP, all are pieces of software that you can run to transfer files from your machine to the remote machine.

Ftp software can be found at:

Pricewatch http://www.pricewatch.com/ shows PCI Firewire cards that go for ~ $25 (shipping included) Firewire would be mucho more speedo than USB.

Is your camera the DCR-TRV140?

If it is, does this link help?

Worse comes to worse, I can walk you thru this.

I checked the software manual again...it says that you can NOT capture audio if you are running Windows 98:(

jnuts: I appreciate all of your help and honestly may have to have your help. I can do a lot with a computer...but this is way over my head...just something I know nothing about.

Does your camera have an audio out jack that you could use to hook up to your sound card? Maybe you could jur rig a system where the video came in from USB and audio came in from soundcard...

Though, to be honest, it would probably be much easier to do a firewire transfer. The card is pretty cheap.

Do you have Microsoft word or anything like that? Just build a text/word document that you'd like your web page to look like and we can go from there. Doesn't have to be exact. Hell, if you are in a pinch, just draw it out on a piece of paper, take a picture of that then send/show it.

Once the page is built, I'll lead you through how to update, etc.

Ummmm...

Of course I'd like to have something cool set up...with me lifting lots of crazy things...but I just don't know how to do it.

www.growordie.com

That is a site of an Elite member...he has tons of videos on his site too. I'd like to have a home page with my name on it and a pic of me event training or something. A couple links where you could click on some pics and a link for videos.

Have you ever been to bikinimom's site? I like hers a lot.

www.bikinimom.com

I'll PM you my aim info...will be home from work in 45 minutes...by 11:30 CST.

Fair enough, I'll help you get rolling.

Just looked at Sony's website and there is probably a way you can have a workaround here.

Get video into the system the way you normally do with USB... The windows video driver name for this is "Sony Digital Imaging Video"

Take the audio out from the camera and put it to the Line In input on your sound card. I'm guessing one end will need to be an RCA jack and the other will need to be one of those little male plug things. If you didn't get one with the cam, radio shack has one fo cheap. If you don't have one, you can check this idea out by sticking your microphone by the camcorders speaker...same concept, rotten quaility, but it will show you that it will work. Just be sure you select the right input for recording on the computer. Microphone, line in, etc.

Now you've got video and audio coming into your system...and you need to record it in sync...

Don't know if the software that came with the cam can merge the video/audio or not, but others can.

Windows Media Encoder is free from M$ (it's a resource hog, but it is free...)

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/wm7/encoder.asp

you could use that to record the movies on to the computer...
