Will your XP be saved?

I'm good with Vista. I do see why some people want XP because machines that aren't as fast can't run Vista well. Most casual users don't get 3 gig of RAM on their machine.....

If you load up on RAM it does run better, 2 GIGs in the absolute lowest you can go and that is only for basic Vista and a casual user, doesn't make me like Vista anymore though.

The next time I'm in the area I will pick up a MAC notebook to see if I like it otherwise no harm done.

i just read that before i logged in

i currently run xp, but am going to need a new machine soon enough. apparently i'm stuck with vista unless i buy soon.

i'd honestly prefer to run another XP machine over vista. out of all my friends running it, most have had problems.

Manny is right (Waves!)

I have a former co-workers who now works at MS. I emailed him my 4GB dilemna. He emailed me some instructions on tweaking the internals of the systems. Bunch of DOS commands I had to run.

My system (drum roll) now shows 4096 in System Properties! And my Adobe After Effects now uses 3 GIGS total.

My system fucking screaammss baby.

Oh yeah. I'm taking her out for dinner tonight.

I design operating system builds for a large corporation.. XP, Vista.. etc..

Vista sucks monkey ass. Crappy memory manager, crappy, bullshit ass sloppy coding on the GUI.. HYUUUUGE fucking footprint..

POS operating system. Our MSI packagers are going throug hell trying to get shit to work... I still cant beleive MS release that trash.

Id go back to Win 2k before Id put that bullshit on any production machine.

it's on my laptop. at work.

it's a combination of setting bios to remap addresses or something, changing windows boot options, advanced, to 4096. Then going to dos and typing this command in to update the kernel, etc. i have to find it again.

you got your XP set up wrong (no offense).

Total # of applications including all versions of each app in our corporation runs near 50k..

I have yet to see a single one perform better on Vista.....

Id say 99.9% of crashes with XP are due to bad API calls from applications or poorly written drivers.

If you set up XP using pure WDM drivers (basically the core driver with NO manufacturer GUI's or front end crap) and tested apps it will massively cut down on crashing.

I have thousands of production machines that havnt reported a crash in as long as I can remember.

Glad to hear you are having good luck with Vista.. you are definitely a rare case.

I run both. My Vista rig I built specifically for Vista Ultimate when it got released. I know lots of guys who are system builders/tweakers and we all experience the BSOD from time to time. It has gotten better with SP1. It is not as stable as XP for sure.

On a side note, I am tired of calling India every time I switch hardware components on my rig to verify I haven't installed my $300+ OS on more than 1 machine...

Looking forward to keeping XP Pro on my laptop well past 2010 :)

Dude the ONLY way that will ever stop is find out ahead of time BEFORE you buy from a vendor who they outsorce their help to.. if they say India tell them they are fucking traitors and to fuck off.

For SURE... I would use Linux or even a Mac but my wife can't use either!

I'm too attached to the Vista UI. It's very handy and fast and i love the new user's folder structure.

Tho I hate the stupid black bar everyone always has at the bottom. MS, always missing out on the simple shit.
