On the Infinite Mind radio show recently there was a show about dopamine and its relationship to the experience of love. Clicking on the link here you can read a text summary or listen to the whole thing.

But one point I thought was fascinating related to the differences in the male and female brains when it comes to love. The brain activity of men who identified themselves as having just recently fallen madly in love was measured while they were presented with a picture of their woman. The areas of the brain related to visual stimuation and erectile function were activated. However, when the women were tested under the same circumstances it was the areas of our brains related to memory that were activated.
Cool stuff.
