seatbelt laws perplex me. If you do not wear a seatbelt you will hurt nobody but yourself, so they are put in place because the goverment has deemed it needs to protect its people. But if this true why not stop the sale of tobacco or alcohol which are far more likely to kill then a seatbelt. Why, because they both make money and are backed by companies that make campaign donations. Still should I have to wear a seatbelt because my goverment says I need to.

its not the sale of alcohol and tobacco that kills people, its the misuse and abuse of the two that does it. thats the distinction.
