Why methyltestosterone isn't the ultimate mass-building steroid?

Dianabol is boldenone, with an 17 alpha methyl attached.
Methyltestosterone, as the name implies is testosterone, with an 17 alpha methyl attached.

Testosterone is clearly a more powerful mass-builder than boldenone.

So why methyltestosterone isnt much more powerful than dianabol?

I used to wonder that exact question... I think it aromitizes more heavily than dbol (as test aromitizes more heavily then boldenone), which could lead to less true mass building properties. It could also be that higher androgenic drugs don't necessarily produce more mass (as with halotestin). Tren is more androgenic than nandrolone, but it doesn't necessarily produce more mass.

I think the bottom line is there are more things going on that affect muscle-building than simply increased AR affinity, etc. But I'd like to hear what others think.

17AA - alpha alkylation

Alkylation is dfferent from methylation. Methylation seems often to alter the properties of a molecule. Let's face it, too, that testosterone is just modified cholesterol.

Off subject, but Blut wump did make a good point. I hear of "17-alpha-alkylation" sometimes used interchangeably with methylation. If they aren't the same, what is an example of how alkylation is used in steroids?

you can also have a 17 alpha ethyl on some steroids. whether it be a methyl or ethyl, propyl, butyl etc...it is still considered alkylation when refering to the whole 17aa nomenclature in steroids
