Why is Rush Limbaugh on ESPN?

I was watching this weekend when he said that Donovan Mcnabb wasn't that good. He said that people just want him to be good because he's black. I had a feeling at that time that this could be one of those statements that comes back to haunt somebody. It was on CNN today. Rush Limbaugh doesn't know shit about about football. It's not as if he's sexy like Lisa Guerrero either. WTF? He made the statement the other day that the Rams had never been to the Superbowl under Mike Martz. He should have stuck with whatever he was doing before. Whatever that was.

I forgot to add, Michael Irvin sort of agreed with Limbaugh when he said that about McNabb. He's been voted to two Probowls and led his team to two NFC championship games. What up with this playa hateration?

he's there to be controversial. they want people to watch him because they like him, and they want people to watch him because they hate him, a la Howard Cosell. People hated that dude yet they just had to watch Monday Night Football to see what kind of bullshit would come out of his mouth. I don't think this is going to work for ESPN.

Irvin also kind of agreed with Terrel Owen's antics on the sideline on sunday if that means anything.

I guess it means that Irvin is washed up crack head that says yes to anything that won't get his old ass fired.

i saw limb. too
turned it right off
glad i usually just watch college ball

you think they would have learned from denis miller that it just doesn't work

He's fat, out of shape, and his area is political commentary. Why wouldn't he be on a show about athletic competition? Oh, wait...

Limbaugh is a fat, deaf piece of shit who has no business announcing anything outside of his gay politics show, and he even sucks at that. His comment about folks just wanting McNabb to be good because he's black will end up getting his lard-ass kicked right off the network.

It's funny how opinions no matter how right or wrong they may be are not tolorated in a free country, if they are not seen as correct by one side.

I'm surprised he made this comment given the fact that many will be watching him closely to see if he'll slip up in some ultra-conservative way. He should just stick to commenting on pure NFL stuff and avoid the social commentary. He won't last on ESPN.

Regardless of McNabbs race, rush was correct Mcnabb does suck right now! Tampa Bay destroyed him and the eagles and now they can only win one game so far this year. Their backups did a awesome job last year, I think it is time to let him play just like the rams did with their backup.

It's a free country still, but hey, Donovan Mcnabb has been the runner up for the League MVP, been voted to the pro bowl twice and played in two NFC Championship games. Basically Limbaugh is trying to discredit all of that because he's black. Like there's a hundred white guys out there who can do the same thing, but they just have him in there because everyone wants to see a black quarterback succeed.

While that may be true, that's not what he said. He said that McNabb hasn't been that good from the beginning.

Again Mcnabb has not won a Superbowl and most of his pro bowls were the result of hype. Otherwise he would have carried his team to the big game. Warren Sapp is a bigger man then him and he got scared of him. Truthfully he is carring to much weight and he is lacking the mobility that he had in college. But to say anything about his Fatness would be shall I say fattist. And I'm no Fattist.

I think mcnabb is a good QB. But right now his confidence is shaken. And IHO is right, he's gotten a bit chunky as of late. One other thing, I don't think any team has had a lousier set of wide receivers as the eagles in the last 15 or so years. Their WR's suck ass, and it makes McNabb's job that much harder.

Good point. He does not have the tools right now to carry the team without a great supporting cast. I think if you lays off the Chunky Soup for a couple of weeks he will regain some of his scrambling speed.

How long was Elway in the league before he won a Superbowl? How many did Marino win? Do you think they were great quarterbacks? You think that unless a player plays on a superbowl winning team, they suck? I just think that Rush should stick to things that he knows about. What would that be again?

Elway was overrated, his coach and team carried him and Marino won nothing but useless passing titles. Give me a ball and I could throw it 50,000 or so yards in a few weeks at the park. No I don't think they were great quarterbacks. And no you don't have to win a Super Bowl to be great. But to be great you have to not suck and he sucks like a sucker fish giving a blowjob to john holmes.

i'm not even a broncos fan and have to admit john elway was a great quarterback. but, it did take terrell davis to get him his superbowls. he is without a doubt a hall of famer. a great player.

mcnabb is overrated though, the defense has been the heart and soul of that team.

what else are you fools talking about in here? And, I actually do think that Rush is knowledgeable about football. Sports broadcasting is his roots. He just stirs the pot up though.

A few years ago ABC was considering hiring Rush to work MNF. Instead, they hired Dennis Miller. But then again ABC=ESPN anyway.

On a side note, some people are comparing Rush to Cosell. Not a bad thing except Cosell was an announcer in an era that announcers could get away with SOME (the "monkey" comment was an exception, Jimmy "the Greek" was another) of the racial overtones. In this day and age, Rush won't last too long if he lets another McNabb comment fall from his lips.

I agree, I don't think it was racist. I just think he was trying to shake things up and be contraversial. He probably could have thought of a more creative way to do that though. I don't think he should have been on the show to begin with. He didn't add anything to it.

He stepped on it for sure. He took the job because he loves the NFL, and he ruined it because he didn't stay in his lane. He had to know there were folks just waiting for him to screw up in this way. I think he ruined an opportunity to show that he is not the racist some have made him out to be.

Change the context of the sport to boxing, how many times has a white boxer been called or implied to be a "great white hope"? By the same deconstructionist mentality that is being used to attack Limbaugh, pull apart this idea. "Great White Hope" implies that white people are hoping to produce some grand champion to re-establish their dominance over the physically superior black athlete.

Has any writer or announcer ever been raked over the coals to the extent that Limbaugh is for such a reference? Can't think of any. Probably because white individuals have no special priviledges granted by society, as does the "endangered" minority.

There can be little argument that Tiger Woods benefits from his race, since he is a pioneer in his sport, above and beyond his amazing abilities. His race is a marketing tool and media and industry utilize this to their benefit. To acknowledge this is not racism.

Limbaugh has every right to back his statements and not back down, but being in the private sector has to submit to the fact that his employer has every right to remove him from his position based on performance. ESPN must have been retarded to have him on a non-political show.

But then again it is a sports channel and I hate watching sports.

1) have many writers/media people ever used similar references as Rush Limbaugh used?

2) Tiger Woods does benefit because he is black to a degree. But Tiger Woods is also one of the best golfers in the world. If he was a lousy player, or even average, do you think that people would be paying him all sorts of endorsement dollars that he's getting today? no. He is also well spoken which does aid in his marketability. If he was some dumb sounding black guy I don't think he's get the endorsements (a la mike tyson or many other black athletes).

There is definitely a double standard. I'm not calling Rush Limbaugh a racist, just an idiot. If you are looking of example of other people being idiots, they are everywhere. One of my favorites that goes along with this is when Isaiah Thomas said that if Larry Bird would have been black, he'd been just another basketball player.

Money, thats why he's on. Plus he can no longer push his Neo-Con lies on the radio .

This is hardly true. He's got the number one rated political talk show in the nation. ESPN was just his 'weekend' job.

I'm pretty liberal and I personally can't stand Limbaugh, but nothing he said was racist in my opinion. As much as it galls me, I've got his back on this one.
