THIS IS DEFINATELY NOT A RACIST REMARK, SO I JUST WANTED TO GET THAT OUT OF THE WAY...JUST A LEGIT SIMPLE QUESTION/GRIPE AND CONCERN... But I would like some feedback on this....

Just because of the substantial growing populations of the Latin Americans in America, & now have entered the American "workplace" in record numbers, "now," (affirmative Action Laws for some possibly)Americans are now being "urged" to take on Spanish as a second language in the workplace, outside advertisements, commercials,ect.. Mostly because of "jobs that have a large percent of Latino men/ women "employed,"and Spanish would be spoken language.
This seriouslu upsets me. If you have trouble speaking English, and you are in" America "....get the hell out of the country if you don't learn the language. Why should Americans have to take on a second language or adapt to something which is not their language or ethnic background? Greeks, Italians (me), Chinese, ect...We all have to learn English comming to America. Why should we have to learn anything but, just because of their population in America has more than tripled for some reason or another in America in the last decade?

Aside from the fact from one to person from same ethnic background( whatever may be....)talking to another is understandable....but it's just out of sheer laziness for people to come to this country, and Americans HAVING TO ADAPT TO THEIR LANGUAGE NOW because they were to lazy to learn ours!! ( in some workplace environments this pertains to, NOT ALL mind you...but this seems like a growing trend nowadays)

I believe, regardless of statistics,...everyone should have to do their own part in America for themselves and their family. No freebies, no handouts, no exceptions. At one time everyone/every nationality went through some shit, why cry about it and expect special treatment? Affirmative action is not fair, and this seems to be insulting to all Americans to say the least. It's one thing if you are learning the language to go "overseas" to negotiate with other countries....but another when you are highly preferred to take on/ learn another languge besides English in America.

***Also... this "reperations" thing in Liberia talked about on cnn or such,....is just another reason added to the many...hard working Americans are just fed up with the system today, and the way people abuse it to get handouts, rather go out there and get a job for yourself.

Always considered myself a fair person. Not a racist, but if someone is hateful towards me, any race, then I definately am not up to taking anyone's shit, them especially being racist towards me.(expect vice/ versa) But back to the topic,... I have a best friend who is "Brazilian," came to this country not too long ago, and he and I am in agreement on the topic. I just would like others views on this topic.

Because the US has Open Borders and politicians are pandering to the huge block of spanish speakers, illegal or not!

There is no Official Language!

Perhaps because unlike any other first world country the USA is egocentric and backward enough not to seriously learn any second language. In Europe a second and a third and a fourth language are compulsory in school, at at least a simple level.
in holland we learn

Dutch
English
German
French
Greek (optional)
Latin (Optional)
Spanish (optional)

Learning second languages is useful beyond simply communication with those who dont speak English, it also helps one understand other cultures.
