Why don't people understand freedom of speech?

What's your point? He is exercising his right to free speach to bitch about someone else and your bitching about him. Sort of a catch-22 aint it?!

My point is that unless the government is involved saying anything about "free speech" is ridiculous. If he is never hired again because of his leftist views he will see it as a violation of "free speech" when it is not. It's just a buzz word people like to throw around. The only modern day examples of free speech violations occur in the public school system.

Actually, the Constitution just says "Congress shall make no law...etc." I guess that means technically state and city governments can make as many laws as they want against speech. Almost every state has some type of moronic obscenity laws. Does anyone else remember the 2Live Crew being thrown in the joint for singing songs using the word "fuck"? They were acquitted at trial but the simple fact that someone can even spend one night in jail for singing music shows that free speech does not exist in the USA.

No but it would be discrimination, a different thing entirely.

Discrimination maybe based on webster's definition, but not discrimination in the eyes of the law.

The only right you have in this country concerning words that come out of your mouth is that the government cannot put you in jail for stating an opinion. That is it.

Do you believe people should be free to tell lies about others which damage their reputations, without penalty? Should I be allowed to spread rumours that you are a paedophile?

Do you think that people should be free to incite hate and violence against others so that they cannot participate equally in society?

Do you believe people have the right to shout "fire" in a crowded room?

It is a typically libertarian perspective to see freedom as only something that a government violates. While the power of governments needs to be limited, so too do does the power of those who have economic control. If not, all you have is tyrannical government replaced by a type of economic fascism.

and when you do that, you have liberal fascism, which is
worse than any of the others, as decisions are made by
deciding what "feels" best to leftist nutjobs...

economic decisions will, at least, be made with some
thought toward output optimization, which has a
tyranny limiting effect in that a happy middle class is more
productive than any class under a tyrannical system...

which the ultra=rich are aware of...

so labor under the yoke of the rich???

yes, as it is much better than some nutjob commie/libs...
