Just curious to see why everyone in here spends the time they do going to the gym week after week.

A good place to find out too who has similar goals to yours and who may be of help in reaching them.

Me,..Started lifting in high school then on through college for wrestling, "collegiate sports" (wish I knew then what I know now) Took quite a few years off from the gym (got married, got fat and outta shape) Went back a few years ago for "General Health". Now at 36 I'm in the best shape of my life and natural,..thinkin' of possibly competing in the near future. Currently on a mass building phase to see just how big I can get naturally.

So with all that said, (sorry to be long winded) guess my vote for now would have to honestly go to "self gratification" (Gym's become like an addiction and I just love killin that shit)

If I dont go and workout, I become very aggitated and depressed. And it feels like I'm missing something. So, I'm stuck there forever! Plus, even tho I'm there every week and doing same thing over and over, for some reason it just doesnt get boring.

purely functional strength for every day life. i want to hop on any of my bikes and be able to say "geeze this 45 pound downhill rig is light" or "holy smoke this 20 pound trials bike is like helium". i want to be able to lift heavy shit and not worry about my back or my knees because i do it every 5 days or 6 days in the gym. i want to look in the mirror and say "damn boy you got some nice guns for being a real estate agent".

and lastly, out of pure coincidence that i lift, i want women to fight over me!! i will own this town, i will own my fitness, and i WILL be at 50 million in net worth by my 50th birthday. step one, go to the gym.

Ok so would it be fair to say for JohnRob, "General Helath"

I'm with ya on the not goin' and gettin cranky and deperessed Yomama!! Just took this last week off for some deconditioning and wife was askin' when I was goin back to the gym. Said I was irratable and hornier than usual. So Yomama,..why do ya go? What are yer' goals?

I think this poll can actually be helpfull to many. If I wanna be a competitive body builder or strongman, ect. When asking for advice on certain lifts, programs, ect. I will know who's behind the giving of the advice I'm askin about and their goals. Seen a lot of misinformation at times in here for newbees that could have been avoided if; 1. Their questions were more specific 2. If the information given was from a good source with some background to back it.

I originally started boxing (gym) because I had anger management problems. Now that that is all sorted I go to keep healthy and to look better. Healthy body, healthy mind and all that. And I study nutrition which has a shite load of women in it and no gym rats such as myself... it's all good =)

i hit the gym to stay out of the "stylishly stout" section of better men's stores like wal-mart and target.

Any "competitive" Body Builders, Power Lifters, Strongmen on this board or what? All good bros' who give some great advice;... Beast? Needsize? Scottsman? Bfold? Big4life, Casualbb? illuminati? mekanik? ect....Whats the reason you guys go to the gym and yer backgrounds????

B-E-C-A-U-S-E !!!

I go because I'm addicted to it. Don't want to but I have a need like an alchy with booze. I played off & on over the years. Found out I'm diabetic, gym kept me healthy, & sane. Love the feeling after an intense workout.

i have competed in powerlifting- 3 times.
(2nd place, 1st and 1st for females)
I go because i like getting stronger. i like having something i'm good at that most women aren't. I use it as a stress reliever and its the only part of my day thats just for me. it helps keep my weight down and my energy up and gives me a little confidence.
plus, if anyone ever attacked me, i could kick their butt.

i just love the pain and to pick up/or to be picked up....lol...right...NOT

the real reason is to keep in shape, reduce stress, learn about nutrition, get a hot massage and check out some hot guys ;)

there are a few reasons, not necessarily related

1. I like the physical process... it feels good to work out
2. I like what it does for me aesthetically... I used to be very skinny, and suddenly there's a remedy for that
3. (most importantly) no matter what else happens in my life, this is something I'm succeeding at. I'm addicted to the progress, of bodyweight and strength'

It was the sport I was best at. I played football and ran track but I didn't have natural talent for those. I agree with sugar; I've gotten a lot of confidence from it and I like the way it makes me look. It's always been just for me.

because I'm good at it.
I've always been an individual sports person. i train alone, and i'm hardest on myself, so thats what makes it good for me.

i don't plan to compete as a powerlifter but I train as one. its fun!

It's all about brain chemistry
