why do communists & fascists hate intellectuals

in the 30's-70's, radical right wing & left wingers hated intellectuals. Why would you do that?

Is it because fascism & communism were considered to be parties of the working class? is there resentment over the fact that intellectuals don't do manual labor.

I read some nazi propaganda once (from the 30s) blasting the jews because they were educated. I don't remember it word for word but it basically said



Of 100 jews we observed, 16 were lawyers, 20 doctors, 10 managers (and about 30 others were educated white collar jobs i can't remember).
Not one was a streetsweeper, baker or construction worker. none worked with their hands.


wtf? who condemns education or not doing blue collar work. i seriously can't figure that out. Is there some class resentment there or something?

Technically, communism/socialism has been pushed heavily by the "intelligentsia", throughout history.

As for the Fascist reference, it is an easy means of solidifying the masses against an "enemy", very much like today's "wealthy" and "poor".

True, the bolsheviks were intelligists faking like they were working class.

But how do you explain the purges of intellectuals in china, germany, russia or cambodia?

Was it an example of people supporting a system that eventually destroyed them (both the working class & the intelligista felt the brunt of asian communism & european fascism).

I think it has more to do with maintaining control. Once you overthrow a government and set up your regime, your main goal is to protect it from reprisal. Who is more of a threat, intelligent people or average to dumb people?

In terms of the Bolsheviks, anyone who did not follow order or was heard dissenting was executed to display the penalty of dissent and also to prevent dissent from disseminating. Also, the Bolsheviks were very apt at using psychology for mass control, they brought it to an art form. You don't waste alot of time on older people who are set in their ways: kill them if they resist or leave them be if they follow commands. It is the young that are susceptable to "molding". This is why schooling was critical in the Communist ideology.
