Why celebrate a demonic holiday?

Halloween is nothing more than a holliday giving Satan thanks. It's not a holiday to give God Glory!

How, pray tell, does it celebrate Satan??

Yeah. Satan isn't about the devil and the witches and stuff. Satan is about something that is pleasing. It seduces you into following and believing. It doesn't terrorize you.

Satan is the stripper who makes you think you're the only person in the world for her.

Satan is the used car sales who is your new best friend.

Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).

The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.

To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities.

During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other's fortunes. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter.

By A.D. 43, Romans had conquered the majority of Celtic territory. In the course of the four hundred years that they ruled the Celtic lands, two festivals of Roman origin were combined with the traditional Celtic celebration of Samhain.

The first was Feralia, a day in late October when the Romans traditionally commemorated the passing of the dead. The second was a day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple and the incorporation of this celebration into Samhain probably explains the tradition of "bobbing" for apples that is practiced today on Halloween.

By the 800s, the influence of Christianity had spread into Celtic lands. In the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV designated November 1 All Saints' Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs. It is widely believed today that the pope was attempting to replace the Celtic festival of the dead with a related, but church-sanctioned holiday. The celebration was also called All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints' Day) and the night before it, the night of Samhain, began to be called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween. Even later, in A.D. 1000, the church would make November 2 All Souls' Day, a day to honor the dead. It was celebrated similarly to Samhain, with big bonfires, parades, and dressing up in costumes as saints, angels, and devils. Together, the three celebrations, the eve of All Saints', All Saints', and All Souls', were called Hallowmas.

One of the believed originations of the Halloween costumes is that on All Hallows Eve the dead were believed to roam the earth looking for a live body to inhabit - thus the costume to portray an ugly outward appearance to the soul.

Jack O Lanterns were also used to ward off the tricky wandering souls who also liked to play tricks on the living (hence Trick or Treat) thus treats were left on the stoop to lure the ghosts into taking the treat instead of playing a trick on the living.

The "holiday's" origins have more to do with a Harvest Festival/Change of Seasons/Celebrate Life & Respect the Dead/Ward off Ghosts theme than Satanism

Halloween is a time to have some fun dressing up and going to a party to get laid. I'm down with this Satan dude. If hell is like Halloween, where do I apply for a postion living in hell?

Ummm..It's a pagan holiday not a satanic holiday. I'm sure there are a lot of pagans that wonder why anyone would want to "give glory" to an alternately vindictive and benevolent sky deity but to each their own.

Oh. you're going there! No doubt about it!

The whole idea of tricker treating for me is to bring joy to children....I could care less about the origination of the holiday...I am not celebrating demons or witchcraft...I am simply celebrating giving joy to children through tricker treating with them or giving them candy when they come to my door :)

God bless the little children

i will have no part in the holiday of demons.
What about Christmas? Guess where the tree came from? You got it! It was part of a deal with the druids.

you can give out candy 364 days a year. It doesn't have to be on halloween only.

I always pitied the Jehovah's witness kids who had to sit in a corner during biurthday parties, and wore no costume on Halloween. This holiday is secular today. When you deprive the children of the fun and adaptation of social skills that come from partaking in it you are being far more demonic than anything intended on this day.

Eh - I just did a Google search as I figured a copy & paste action could sum it up better than I could.

As we can see it's very very difficult to combat ignorance - usually if someone has their mind set - there ain't no changing it.

But since a lot of our current holidays are based off old Celtic Festivals & I'm part Irish - the holidays have a little extra meaning to me.

Good point!!

I'm sure that would go over well - a grown man seen trying to give children candy. There'd be a neighborhood revolt, he'd prolly get his ass kicked or go to jail on suspicion of being a child molester/pedophile.

And the cops are SURE to believe the story that "Halloween is a Demonic Holiday so I'm giving out candy today instead." Suuuuuuuurrreeee!! With that reasoning, they'll be sure to put him in a cell with the meanest guy.
