Why Can't You shoot a Robber in the Back?

This cop that rides was telling me that if you get held up you can shoot the dude if when he threatening you but you can't shoot him(after he threatened you) when he is fleeing in the back. I mean why not he still threatened your life with a weapon, took your money(your livelyhood) and you are definetely preventing the dude from doing it again. So why can't waste him from the back?

In Texas you can defent property with deadly force, at least you could when I lived there. YOu could legally shoot the repo man if you thought he was stealing oyur car. This has happened several times and the guy didn't face charges.

Here in the DC area, cops are shooting people in the back all the time when they are trying to get away. .As long as you perceive the robber to still be a threat, "well when he turned around his arm/hand was turning back towards me. Fearing for my life i shot him." Every time the police get off when they use this statement.

As for a layman, you can use something similar.. Well i still perceived him as a threat, he turned around and not sure if he was going to shoot me. Or you can use the "fleeing felony" act. Where the person just committed such a violent/heinous act that fear of your life and others , he may committ another violent /heinous act. At this point, you neutralize the THREAT !!
