Why can there only be 1000 characters in a "Private Message?"

Well you could have copy/paste half of it and sent this in a second message.
There has to be a limit for everything i guess. If he puts the limit on 2000 characters, then some will say: "why only 2000".
Actually that's what I do, Jeff...most of my PM's end up over 1000 and knowing this, I take the precaution of cntrl-C-ing them when I think of it.
When I don't remember and lose everything, I say "dear me what a pity!" with a sweet smile of patient endurance all over my face

Your argument that if it were 2,000 reminds me of being at my high school (girl's private school in England). About twice a year we could submit suggestions to the school and after some length committee process the principal would report back on what suggestions they decided to implement. One time they vetoed everything except to repair the sign at the entrance of the school with the school name on (I'd still like to know who requested that?!?!?!

Anyway this came to mind because they would give 'reasons' for the veto. So one time a girl asked if we could wear white socks as part of the uniform. We were allowed only fawn (sp?) (as in - pale brown) or dark green. Not what girls would wear outside school...ever... (Oh, hose was ok in the upper years too)
So your very reason was given - if we allow white, then people will want pink, or another color...where will it end? We can't go this direction...
I dunno. It could be a good argument. It probably isn't particularly - true of PMs specifically - that people would complain about any limit.
However it is true that there are some things regarding which we never feel we have enough. Like, money, and...
