Why body-building Sucks.......

JoNeS

First off, I wanna say that I love body-building. I love the things I have gained through it, the friends, the experiences, and the life-style. However, there are a shit-load of things that suck about body-building if you compare it to other sports.

Cost my friends, cost. We have to eat a ton of food. Body-builders grocery bills are at-least double that of an average Joe's and it sucks having to eat at-least every 3 hours, and it can get very interuptive. In addition to the cost of food, you have the cost of supplements. I can easily spend $100-$200 a month on supplements. And thats getting the stuff that is pretty much required, none of that over marketed garbage you see in the magazines. Also you have the cost of the monthly gym membership, and for all of you who don't go to the gym because you have a BOWFLEX, stop reading this right now and go find someone, and have them kick you in face. And don't forget the cost of the ever precious "gear". That can add up very quickly too. But yadda yadda who cares, so body-building is a little pricey no biggie...... Heres what Really pisses me off about body-building, pro-bodybuilding.

To be a body-builder and be successful as a pro, you Need to take Roids. It is required, there is absolutely no getting around it. Show me another sport where it is required for you to take illegal drugs in order to be successfull. Sure, gear can improve your performace in almost all sports however, bodybuilding is the only sport in where large amounts of gear is required, and that pisses me off.

Also, these pro-body builders lead such a healthy life-style, eat well, sleep well, and take great care of their bodies. They are judged on how they look on stage. The average Joe thinks that these guys are incredibly healthy. Yet on the insides all of the "abuse" of drugs and dieuretics has totally fucked them up. Their liver, their heart... and countless other problems. Yea, a cycle or 2 a year for the average gym rat isn't necessarly a bad thing, it can even be a good thing. But when you have these pro's who abuse the drugs so that they can be at the top of the sport, and represent to the world that they are an incredibly in shape healthy person........yet on the inside they are all fucked up, and really not a healthy person. How hypocritical is that?? I hate what body-building has become. It is REQUIRED, for you to take an excess amount of illegal drugs and fuck up your insides, in order for you to be the best. But hey, if people wanna do that, thats cool... i'm not hating against them, its their fucking life. I just think the whole body-building sport and perspective is completely hypocritical.

So why do we spend all this money on food, supps, gear, and what have you. Why do we bust are balls in the gym, and resist eating shitty food and alcohol. Why do we inject ourselves with drugs to make us pretty on the outside, at the sacrifice of our health. Why do we even work-out in the first place? I'll tell you my friends its only one word. PUSSY. Thats right good old fashion pussy. Trying to make ourselves more attractive to the opposite sex. Maybe not for some of the older lifters who do it for health, and maybe not for some of the althetes. But i guarentee that 90% of men and women who start exercising is because they want to look better for the opposite sex.................. but anywho I'm done ranting

Awfully long post, and with the exceptiong of golf I would guess professionals in all other sports are also taking gear.

interesting thoughts parker, but your post would be way more readable it had paragraphs. (don't mean to diss you).

Newb question, how do you make paragraphs? When ever I type a post and try and make a paragraph, it ends up sploshing the words together.

I'd say the worst part is the drive for perfection and the effect it all has on the rest of your life. I've driven 2 girlfriends crazy with my absolute REFUSAL to eat crap food with them, etc.

Don't kid yourself. If you want to be a star in almost any sport you will need natural talent and gear. I doubt you will ever be a pro, so don't worry about it. I know I won't go pro so I don't give a shit.

True

Yeah, it's a lot of sacrifices. the Grocery bill, the supplement bill, the time out of each day for weights, cardio or both, the gear bill (oh boy, the gear bill), the risk of getting gear, trying to get 8 hours sleep at night, avoiding 'bad" food and drugs/alcohol, eating every 3 hours, worrying about eating when you're out, just to name few.
I must disagree on the Pussy aspect. Yeah, it helps, but game beats sculpted body any day of the week. The bigger point is though, that you've gotta want it for yourself quite honestly, otherwise I believe there is no real satisfaction to it.

BODYBUILDER TILL I DIE!!!

to be successful at anything you have to be will to do things other guys won't. you should take pride in your sacrifices to reach your goals. life is fun if you have things going on.

bicyclists (except Lance Armstrong :))

and not everyone on the board is trying to maximize their size or willing to fuck their bodies to lose 1.2% of their bodyfat - some are in it for the fitness and health aspect. looking good is just a beneficial side effect of working hard to be healthy.

sorry here...Lance is certainly not an exception...trust me....the question should be , show me a sport that does not require drugs??? the "BAR" has been raised to a very very high level of performance and record setting standards....natural atheletes on a world class level, are a thing of the past...

Agreed, but all of the non body-building athletes are not required to take such an excess amount of gear that it puts their health at risk. Basically if you want to be a pro body-builder, then you have to sacrifice your own health. You don't have to sacrifice your on health for greatness in other sports. You may have to take some gear. But not a shit-load all year round.
