Why are there so few games for the Game Cube?

Is it going to stick around or pull another Dreamcast scenario?

I think it might be because its sort of hard to develop for? i think i heard that somewhere. Also could be do to the fact that a lot of 3rd party developers signed exclusive deals to develop only for certain systems. dont know tho, just speculating.

the PS2 is the hardest to develop for, the XBox is the easiest. GameCube somewhere in the middle. The hardware for it isn't as good as the other two.
but the real reason is likely licensing rights as BI said.

its because of console units sold - PS2 is WAY out in the lead, by millions of units. if you're a developer, PS2 yields the most potential sales per unit of development time, so sony has the most licensing clout. I haven't played a gamecube, but I hope it survives - competition is good...

they are focusing on quality and not quantity.. there are a bunch of really good games coming out for it in the next year and a half. say what you want about the hardware not being up to par with ps2 but its[gamecube's] graphics and frame rate are noticeable better when i play games that are on both. agent under fire, burnout, and spiderman are three good examples.
