You screwed this up. Mugabe in Zimbabwe is the best one.

He took a country that had the most productive farmlands in the world at the time and was the breadbasket of Africa and turned it into a third world shit hole. He was the first person to advocate (and actually execute) the genocide of whites. It did a lot for his country lol

Stilleto

Hitler is the man most responsible for the way the world map looks today
not bad reprecussions for a man who was about 40 when he assumed power

Anybody wonder why the UN is not taken seriously by many?

Idi Amin granted himself a number of titles, and for a period in 1977 to 1979 he was titled "His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada." He became head of the Organisation of African Unity in 1975[6] and during the 1977-1979 period, Uganda was appointed to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.

i was going to say because they have no balls, but your answer is fine as well.

Hussein and Pol Pot run a close race, but the Cambodians prolly died an easier death than some of the Iraquis did....

Sadam Hussein. That's a no brainer. Just look at the post-Sadam era and you'll know why.
Hitler. Just look at Israel.
or eastern europe

Stalin would get my second vote

I'm voting based on world impact

The problem with Hitler: he was elected. Then he took away most rights and turned the german constitution up-side-down but still, he didnt come out of the blue like the others.

to me that qualifies more as "best"
he followed the legit channel to get himself to top honcho

also too Hitler really genuinely wanted to raise the standard of living and influence of the German nation (e.g. creation of the volkswagen)
He wanted german hegemony over europe

he didn't use his power for personal enrichment

IMO the "master race" will eventaully be a blend of African blood with caucasian blood
depends on what you value for your master race

seems cold but I agree with the nazi policy of eugenics

There should be categories like, "most murdered" (Stalin, Hitler, Pot), "best coup" (Saddam) or "most colorful" (Amin, Mussolini)

No participation from the Asian bloodlines?

I don't know much about those other lesser known ones so can't technically say who was the best, but as far as most influential it has to be Hitler. We're still paying for his loss of WWII, both figuratively and literally.

Why does being a dictator have to be a bad thing?

We originally beat them to it....yet now it's one of the many things we villainize them for.

Do we really need them ? Do they have something good to offer ?

Technology and martial arts.

Seems to have worked well for them so far, being the most populous group on the earth.

stalin. the gulags speak for themselves
when someone was sent to the gulags, be it for whatever reason.. their family was sent as well as their close friends and such. your existence was eliminated.

Hitler. No dictator was so sensitive to the will of the people/ garnered such popular support of the masses. He would look @ the facial expressions of his audiences during his speech & alter his words accordingly. Like a qb reading the defense & calling audibles on the line of scrimmage to throw the game winning td. lol. His ideology was relatively simple. It played heavily upon pre-existing prejudices. If it weren't for logistical reasons/circumstances/mistakes that lost the war; he would've taken over the planet.

Cal21 makes a great point. Hitler was one of the few dictators that was loved by his people - at least while the German army was kicking ass. I'm sure at one time he had 50 million supporters (just a guess), which is no small accomplishment.
Javaguru would no more on this.

He had no interest in taking on the U.S. He wasn't crazy; even he knew that would be playing with fire. Besides he had bigger issues on the other side of the pond. The only reason he took on the Soviets is because he knew if he didn't preemptively deal with them while the going was good, Germany and most of Europe would have to deal with them later on their turf, with no foreseeable advantages. If only he didn't feel obligated to babysit Mussolini he could've taken Moscow before that freezing winter could impede their offensive. And that would've been the end of communism in Russia/Europe.

Stalin to the people of the Soviet Union on defending against Germany:

`Thus the issue is one of life or death for the Soviet State, for the peoples of the U.S.S.R.; the issue is whether the peoples of the Soviet Union shall remain free or fall into slavery ....

lol how ironic that last part is.
