A good friend has narcolepsia and has been prescribed Alertec by Draxis Health (Modafinil). How effective it is ? The doc told him it's kindda like amphetamine or cocaine but without the sides and much more stronger. Also it's suppose to have some memory enhancing properties.

I tried it last year. Like Cocaine or Amphetamine? I think not. Although I did not take it as directed. (I took more) It seemed to ward off fatigue, I did not go to sleep that night. I took some more in the morning as I had to go to work and I did not feel good. I don't know if this really helps but.......there you go. I would consider it a healthier alternative to staying awake then say, drinking alot of coffee, nothing more.

its effects are almost dissociative... their is a definite feeling of distance from events.. it does promote wakefullness, allows one to drink excessive amounts of alcohol without "true" intoxication (or at least loss of motor skills), and does help with single focal point concentration (multi-tasking seems to be more difficult when on it)

actually high dose ghb (xyrem) is very effective for most narcoleptics.
