Who or What is Your God?

For all the Atheist / Agnostics on the board.

Religion...simply that which you do everyday on a continual basis with some measure of faith in the unknown.

Your God...That which you look to for solace, that in which you find personal comfort.

According to these basic definitions who or what is your God?

I find comfort in reason, rationality, and science.

This is the standard sociological definition of religion Madbomber31.
 
Definitely a strange definition....but under those terms I'd have to say nothing. Pulling up second and third I would say Nature and Music.

And Wodin, that may be the standard sociological definition of religion but not that of atheism or agnosticism. Therefore your point is moot.

Your argument is superflous, this definition was developed to encompass the "Faiths" of Agnosticism and Atheism. For it requires just as much to not believe as it does to belive. Look at the fervent behavoir on both sides of the coin and you see similar behavoirs!

So far I see worship of Greed, Lust and Man.... what no Envy, Sloth, Averice, Pride or Arrogance. Afterall there are really only so many "true things" you can worship...you all are mearly expressing the manifestations of your worship.

wodin, personally i believe that putting faith in something means to believe or accept without knowing.
that in itself seems like a stretch when used with anything aside from love and relationships... (here you may counter with relationship to a god).

as for the mention of greed and arrogance (especially the latter) just look at your peers who honor the all mighty all powerful god... the arrogance is overwhelming.

as for your definition of religion.. i believe it is faulty because not even a third of the "christians" or "faith havers" practice on a daily basis unless practicing encompasses general human morality and ethics... then 90% of the population can claim their religion as human decency and morality.

the final definition seems to be the one you are using... when most think of religion they automatically associate it with a spiritual belief... i do not like the final definition of religion (its far too broad).. reason being is that so many people battle or strive for something or other in a non faithful way... non spiritual as well... its just a "want" or an "end"...

U could say the last one MB, but you have to add in the notion of repetitiveness in order to show the fundemantal physical strucuter of belief.

One can pursue a cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion for a limited time and then stop. I.E.. Many vets from WWII and WWI would fit this example. I'm not saying all but many would.

Therefore you need to add in repetativeness to for a fundmantel baisis of religion to exist.
 
I'm a good Catholic boy. Although I'm not exactly living in a state of grace and I haven't been to confession in several years. When I suspect the end is near, I shall confess my sins en masse and will thereby be able to accept last rites (very important to me) and then die and ascend.

this repetitiveness you speak of... do weekly sunday visits count? going to church weekly, yet being a complete dick all week... does that fit your required repetition?

or even if he is "good" by general moral terms but pursues something on a weekly or bi weekly basis, maybe more frequent but not daily... and he pursues it his entire life... does that qualify as his "religion"?

simple example... a guy strives for the perfect body... yet, only works out 2 times a week.. however he does it for 40 years... its his goal, its what he wants more than anything... yet, his repetitiveness is not daily or even close to being so...
 
Actually madbomber yes a once a week activity would fit the standard definition under sociological terms.

i pray to god and the virgin mary as i am RC,you try to leed a sin free life and goto confession and be forgiven and also ask god for forgiveness, my family is really weird about religion so i went to my grandparents to find out my religion,i finally knwo it and am not confused

i am curious... since to have belief in satan means you MUST have belief in god (simple connection) does that mean satanic folk are christians?
 
Honestly I don't know what I really believe in. I respect others beliefs and just think that there is something bigger then us out there. What it actually is, who really knows.
 
Actually in the Satanic Bible uses satan as purely symbolic and that they are actually atheists in nature. But then in their second book The Satanic Rituals they do nothing but worship satan so I don't know what the to think about satanists that go by Laveyan thinking
