Who Here Plays Pool.......

and where can I find a good cue stick?

I am not a good player by any means, but I am tired of going to any smaller pool hall, only to find the sticks warped and missing tips.

Any suggestions on manufacturers? Any places online for a good deal ( and I don't mean ebay)?

Thanks!

kinda off subject but you ever play at Buffalo Billiards? That place actually pulls in some decent women for a pool joint.

I play, but not very well. Several options, from my experience:

Pawn shops, if you can find one that's not all jacked up and you feel like you can judge the quality fairly well.

Good pool halls that have a pro shop usually have a good selection.

Anyplace that sells tables will also have a good selection. I've seen decent cues for $50 on up, depending on how fancy you want...

Yes I have, it's a nice place, but waiting for a table is a bitch. It is a good upscale place to meet ladies with professional backgrounds (no DOT, not that profession). Good beer there too :p Hefeweisen!!!

Does pocket pool count because I heard Frorider and Happy Scrappy are mixed doubles champions.

Needleboy and DOT, it's interesting that you should both mention Frorider in your replies. I assume you know something about him that would be worth sharing with the rest of the viewing public???

Please, share your pocket pool tournament anecdotes :D

there are hundreds of brands out there. i have a cuetec, its supposedly non-warpable. i paid about 125 for it. but the best stick i ever had was a cheap fifty dollar stick called a dufferin. still have it but the tip is worn completely off from having it for 8 years. and its still straight as hell.

Where did you pick these up? Sporting goods store, or elsewhere?

i bought a new table last year, it was at a billards place, well they sold foosball and card tables also, but you get the point. barneys billards to be exact. but most decent pool halls will have some sticks.

Cool, thanks. One last thing, what kind of price range am I looking at?

Before I started lifting I used to play pool 4 times a week if you are going to get serious get a real cue. You could go with a meucci cue they arn't cheap and some people don't like the way they so called "throw" the ball around the table so if I were you buy the cue and get a "predator" shaft they will make a shaft that will fit the butt "hehe sounds sick hahah" the shafts arn't cheap over 150 but its well worth the money they will not warp and will give you a better feel than any other cue you will be using unless you go with a higher end hand made cue yet those get REAL expensive "i am talking over 1grand for real good ones" otherwise a meucci will do you just fine. You can pick those up for something reasonable like 200 and above and it well worth the cash if you are a serious player. If not just get a sneaky peet or something like that it will do fine for a average player. Hope that helps. Peace.

like drizzt said, anywhere from 50 to over a 1000. me personally, although ive had a table for ten years, i wouldnt spend over 150 or so, i just play at the house and only occassionally at billards joint.

and like i said ive had my 50 dollar stick for about 8 years and it is as straight as an arrow. and the tip it lasted about 5 of those years.

i would put more thought into how the stick fits you, the right shaft. and concentrate on your mechanics. billards is a science and there is alot to learn, and i love playing, its that one on one competetion i like.
