who here eats fast food?

When I am in the US I get Taco Bell. For a normal meal I just get a bean burrito or two. When I am not going often (1 time every 3 weeks?) I will get a Grill-Stuft Burrito or two with a large diet coke (prefer the taste).

In Hong Kong I go to McDonalds rarely (1 time per week). Sometimes I get Chicken Nuggets and sometimes a hamburger or two with some Diet Coke (HK's larges are the same as US mediums). Once in a while I will get either fries or milkshake with something like a McChicken or Double CheeseBurger (tiny fucker). I go to some Asian fast-food places an get rice + chicken steak (tiny) + kimchee + some dessert. Also a place called Curry In A Hurry that serves pretty good food (Chicken Masala with bread, mint sauce, salad).

I never ate Chinese fast food in the US because it tastes like rotting garbage.

Meditteranean/Manhattan style pizza - big slice of mushroom sausage or eggplant pepperoni, or chicken stromboli with tomato sauce. Then some Baklava. I used to live near a restaurant like this, and had it several times per week.

I live in Hong Kong.

Pisses me off that I can't get a solid chunk of lean meat unless I eat loads of sashimi or eat countless cans of high sodium tuna. I drink a lot of whey.

There is some tasty food here though.

Japan has good energy drinks.

If its not a cheat meal and I must eat fast food, I have Arbys lite roast turkey or bean burrito at taco bell. Use to eat at subway a lot, but I saw rats in their trash while I was waiting in the drive through and ,I just can't eat there any more.

i still need to go to hong kong. do you get out to the guandong (fuck.. that may be completely off.. what's the huge province right about HK where tons of workers come into and where all sort of plants are located?) province or into other parts of china at all?

what about fish markets and what not? i figured there'd be one on every corner. if so, why not just stop off and buy yourself a chunk a ahi (or whatever they call tuna in HK) and stick it on the grill when you get home?

I eat whatever I want in Moderation.
Maybe 3-5 times a month for fast food.
No favorites, whatever is convenient. Burger King over McDonalds if possible.
Usually not the Super size stuff.
Usually not the worst thing on the menu.
Steak and Shake is the Best of the Burgers IMO with a Mocha milk shake..

All the time. I went to 3 textile factories (1 spinning, 1 weaving and dyeing, 1 dyeing and screen printing) last summer. It was in some rural area in the Pearl River Delta. Shenzhen is the fucking Wild West. It's a great place to visit if you can go with someone who at least has a clue what he's doing. Guangzhou is nice to visit too. Shanghai is perhaps the most significant city in China nowadays, although not as big of an economy as the entire Pearl River Delta area.

I could do that but I am always out, and I eat everything outside of my residence. All except a few meals a week. Don't really have a grill either... If I could get boneless skinless chicken breasts I might cook some of those in white wine + lemon + olive oil, but I haven't found any. I eat beans/tuna/pita quite a bit now. Lots of shakes.

do you have a car out there or take a train or taxi or subway or what? Guangzhou is the province right about you right?

so where would you recommend i, a person that has no connections in china or HK and doesn't know anyone that does or that has ever been there, i go if i were to travel out alone or accompanied with a friend? HK? what if i'm only going for a week and want to see as much of "the middle kingdom" (all that is great about china.. the wall.. the culture.. any major historical sites/attractions.. etc) as possible and am not really going so much for night life, etc?

are you from HK? if not, what took you out? do you speak chinese? which dialect?

lol. that's got to suck that there isn't any chicken. so most of the foods there are predominantly fish (and other sea animals), rice, seaweed, and what? where do the people shop for groceries or do they?

sorry for all the questions.. i just have a great interest toward china and HK and have been wanting to visit (was even thinking about moving there for a while - though i think i've ruled this out now) for a long time.. thanks plornive.

y_lifter.. what burger do you get a steak and shake and where do you live again? i had the normal burger there and it kinda sucked.

you know what's the bomb ass fast food meal? Jack in the Crack's Ultimate Cheeseburger with curly fries and a large Oreo shake..

we don't have any chains here - except KFC - it is grandfathered in.
I hate KFC, as a result, I don't have fast food. the past few days I have been eating like a king, but paying for it as well since one of the few resteraunts to be open is also a bit pricey. there are many more open now, so perhaps I will branch out until I get power back.

Every few weeks I hit burger king for the #5. The Sourdough bacon cheese burger. It's like sex with a sandwich.

McDonald's grilled chicken breast on a whole wheat bun with lettuce and tomato.

Sans any condiments.

Other than the high sodium content, it's not too bad.:D

I live in Amish Paradise homie...I'm lucky to have a Burger King and I'm not driving 10 miles to a Jack off box.

i eat my food fast. my ol lady trips out. i literally just keep a constant shoveling motion going and chew at the same time. i was trained to eat fast. i was in the navy.

I don't have a car yet. I am looking for one right now. Guangdong is the province, Guangzhou is the city. Although some people refer to the province as Guangzhou. The entire area is called the Pearl River Delta. This includes Guangdong, HK, Macau (old Portugese colony, not officially held by China). Try this http://www.heritage.nsw.gov.au/docs/chinesemap.pdf and this http://www.cgguangzhou.org/pages/EA/Market Sector Reports/c_indussurvey.html and this http://www.pearlriverdelta.org/

I am not really that knowledgeable about China, although I am fairly knowledgable (China comprises a lot of information). Shanghai is the city that is growing the most quickly, with high quality buildings going up at an astounding rate. Beijing is definitely the academic, cultural and political center of China. Shanghai and Beijing are both pop culture centers of China. Shanghai is definitely much wealthier than any other part of China except Hong Kong and Taiwan. Guangzhou is a very industrial city. I found it interesting, but I wouldn't make any special effort to go there unless you want to see this aspect or you are already going to Hong Kong. Shenzhen is a crazy place, although there is not much to really see. Guangdong is the most industrial part of China. IT IS the workshop of the fucking world --- there is no worthy competition. Most of the money from that goes to the investors, whos only reinvestment into China is B2B and in other parts of China (we won't count the wages these workers get). If you go into the Pearl River Delta it is best to watch yourself and be with someone who can speak some of the language or is street smart and experienced in China. I think you might enjoy Hong Kong, although it isn't exactly culturally educational. It is a very fast-paced city (similar in pace to Tokyo). You might actually be bored by it. Hong Kong and Macau are definitely best for night-life, although you said you weren't going for that.

I would also definitely visit Taiwan. Quite a lot to see. Again, best to go with someone who speaks mandarin, but this is not necessary in Taiwan. If you go check out @live discoteque.

are you from HK? if not, what took you out? do you speak chinese? which dialect?

I am not from Hong Kong. I went to Hong Kong for the business environment and to do some research. I speak cantonese conversationally, will be fluent (by American standards) in a year or two. I would like to learn to speak Mandarin. Cannot read or write.

lol. that's got to suck that there isn't any chicken. so most of the foods there are predominantly fish (and other sea animals), rice, seaweed, and what? where do the people shop for groceries or do they?

They shop at outdoor markets for vegetables and fruit, and supermarkets for the rest. Park n Shop and Wellcome are the most popular stores. Cantonese food includes a lot of seafood (squid, shrimp, crab, fish) and some beef and poultry. I find it extremely mild (some would call it tasteless). Guangdong is of course where yum cha / dim sum came from. Sushi and sashimi can be found very cheap and pretty good here.

sorry for all the questions.. i just have a great interest toward china and HK and have been wanting to visit (was even thinking about moving there for a while - though i think i've ruled this out now) for a long time.. thanks plornive.

This is understandable. China will be the best source of cheap good labor, tax evasion and cheap raw materials for a long time to come. Best to learn Chinese now so you can take advantage of it later. Also a nice place to live and explore. Hong Kong is pretty livable, too. Not as expensive as is reported by the media.

And if you are ever in Hong Kong, send me a PM and we can meet up.

OMG!! you have Jacques in the Beauox w/i 10 miles of you??? lucky bastard. i'd drive 10 miles to go there. shit. i'd even make a big deal of it. i'd get dressed nice as though i were going on a date and taking her to Ruth's Chris, then pull into jack and sit down and savor every morsel.

i drive 7 miles from work just to get a starbucks

i live in amish country too. mespotamia is right down the road from me. it's one of the larger amish populations around. we had amish build onto our house, buy tractors from them, horses from them, etc. anywho.. amish country would be much better if there was a jack in the box near it..

thanks for the answers plornive..

you went to HK from the states or....?

cantonese is the most widely spoken dialect right? where did you learn it? would you recommend taking college courses or learning it from a book or books on tape or perhaps some other training center type of course?

thanks again

Mandarin is the mostly widely spoken dialect in China. Cantonese is only spoken in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and some other parts of the Pearl River Delta. I recommend you learn Mandarin. You can go almost anywhere in China with Mandarin. I don't know how many dialects there are in China but it is amazing. Taiwan speaks Taiwanese but mostly mandarin now. Shanghai speaks mostly Shanghainese but probably everyone understands Mandarin.

There aren't really any college courses in Cantonese. When a Cantonese speaker writes formal Chinese, he/she uses Mandarin grammar, as Cantonese is a language of slang - undocumented slang. I am quite good at pronunciation, but I will probably never learn enough phrases and slang.

If you want to learn Mandarin, I suggest you take a college course. They will teach you a lot of writing and grammar, which you will not get through submersion. Shit, you probably already know all of this.

I sometimes practice traditional characters with copy books. Those are always fun. I also learned Cantonese and some Mandarin with books and tape. The ABSOLUTE best book for Cantonese is Colloquial Cantonese. Comes with Tape/CD. I also took 3 courses in Hong Kong.

I have yet to actually finish a course in Mandarin. Started one but ran out of free time to practice.

I was in Hong Kong as an exchange student before. Did research in Hong Kong later. Came from the states. Originally from South Florida and went to a university in the Midwest. Now just doing business in Hong Kong in several different areas of business.

seriously???? ofcourse im serious, i just told you how i ate my food and ive even been out for a few years now. hold habits hard to brake. im serious, in bootcamp there were times when we were given only 15 seconds to eat.

i was enlisted, E4, FM, 4years. in other words, swabby puke.

i went to the great lakes(chicago!), almeda califa holmes(san fran area), new joisey, newport news (virginia)(largest naval base in the world, still a shit hole if i ever saw one), west-pac which includes all your favorite western pacific locals, lovely thialand, P.I.(philippine islands)(fucky-fucky...ten dollars) no shit bro, hong kong(very bussling city with extrodinarily pretty women with nice calfs), another i cant remember right now, rio dejaneiro, st thomas(virgin is.), thats all i can recall right now, im tired.

i worked on the catapult and arresting gear on the USS enterprise CVN 65. carrier vessel nuclear powered commissioned in 65. only one of its class and in its class. no other carrier afterwards was designed with eight nuclear reactors for propulsion in that daisy-chained manner. all others afterward only have two reactors.

official top speed 35 to 40 knots but unreleased reports of speeds up to 75knots accomplished. thats very fast bro for a ship that is just over 1000ft long and 300 ft wide at its widest part of the deck. and about 18 stories tall from engine room to control tower. three hanger bays that could fit approx. 85 jet planes in, that under the flight deck out of harms way. over 5000 people on board when out at sea. and i spent 8 months out of one year going to sea and doing a world cruise. left san fran and circumnavigated the globe and landed in virginia. thats more than you asked i know.

that's right. i had the cantonese and mandarin mixed up. i knew that one was the predominant in lang. in china. why tibet? are you buddhist? hasn't the buddhist population all moved over into dharamsala?

anywho. thanks for all the info plornive.. good luck in your business ventures.. i'll def. hit you up with a pm when i'm out that way.

sponge.. i was an HM for 6 yrs.. just got out about 3.5 yrs ago or so.. i never made it to great mistakes.. all marine bases except for boot camp and corps school.. well.. one boat too.. an LHA (fuck.. i think it was "lha".. it was the flat bottom boat that they pulled up to the beach with and let us out in the AAVs so that we could rush the beach and meet a quick death - langing helo amphib right?) but i WAS just looking at some good ass deals for trips to the phillipines.. go to the travel section of msnbc.. my friend usually goes every year and has always asked me to go along.. he hasn't been for a two years or so so i think i'm going to hit him up and go on out.. all the flips tell me i can be a t.v. star out there..

I'm not buddhist, although I would choose Buddhism over most other religions any day.

I think most of the population in Tibet and Kunming is Han Chinese. I don't think the ethnically Tibetan population has mostly moved to dharamsala, but I could be wrong I guess. Mostly, I want to see the area because of what people have told me about it - that it is a beautiful place. That and I have a few contacts on the net who might show me around in Kunming.

you ever get down to bradenton or sarasota or tampa or st. pete or ruskin or sun shitty center at all? my biol. father lives down that way, so i used to spend my summers down that way.. i'd also go down every once in a while throughout the year. anyway.. this is all just a long way of saying that i haven't been down for about a year or so and will be down within 6-8 months to get in some fishin in the flats for snook and reds.. as well as out deep for some group digging.. if i come down i'll hit you up w/ a pm and we can grab a beer..

that reminds me.. what ever happened to needleboy?

Heck, there is fast food here on every corner...

When it is 2 for 2- I get 4 BigMacs, a 32 oz shake and a fry (my fav-been getting this combo since HS)

In&Out is the bomb... some reason I have not eaten 2 4x4s yet though... (not cause I can't, cause I have not tried) I will make it a point to do that though...

BK- I used to get a couple double or trible cheeseburgers, but recently they downgraded the patty size- now they are on my $hitlist

And you just can't beat a giant burrito with steak and tons of hot sauce- going to get a chimichanga ritght now that I think of it....

i'll eat fast food probably once a weekend. after eating the exact same meal lineup(all disgustingly boring) thing mon-fri, you go nuts if you don't throw some usless grease and fat down your throat.

steak and shake is the mecca of fast food. double steak burger with cheese and a big fat chocolate milk shake and those skinny ass fries. shit. also the best drunk food ever is whataburger sausage and egg taquitos with cheese and some hashed browns.
