Who hated Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon?

It was bullshit, but the exoticness thirsty western critics praised it. My Asian girlfriend and her sister laughed at the stupid flying. Spectacular fighting sequences... BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact films like this so called masterpiece are regarded in Asia like the TV-series Bold and Beautiful in USA and Europe.

I haven't seen it and will refuse to do so as long as I possibly can. When EVERYONE says something is "awesome," it usually sucks.

heman is awesome... j/j ill probably watch it someday, i cant believe they didnt at least dub it for tape. hey!! why are you knocking the flying shit?? thats what makes all the old school kung fu flicks so good, they do shit no human could possibly do.

some really old monks up in the mountains of sho lin can really fly like that it took them years and years od dedication and discipline. For Real

what I'm reading roughly translates to
"Hey Cletus...I really wanted to see that there hidin' lion jumping dragon mooveee but it ain't in english and I caint read so good"

As far as the flying goes, it isn't a martial arts flick. It is a fantasy and a well done fantasy at that.
The whole thing is woven into ancient Asian lore.

I didn't expect everyone to like it or even to "get it". It is the cultural differences that make our planet into a place worth living.

jesus christ!! you took that personally!! did you write/act/direct/produce in it?

I don't care what anyone else says, I loved Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, saw it four or five times.

The movie is actually about independence and making choices. If you think about it you'll see why.

Besides Zhang Ziyi kicks ass in those fight scenes.

Loved it. I forgot that I was reading and if a foreign film can do that, it's pretty damn good in my book.

In my opinion it was just a very beautiful movie in all respects. Interesting epic type story. Never seeing anything like it before, i have nothing to compare it to, and really liked it.

i thought i jumped around to much to be really good. It was very confuing and that middle part when the girl was kidnapped, i didnt know how that got thrown into the movie... i didnt really like it

Overhyped? I didn't even hear about the damn thing until a month after it came out and only from friends. I just saw it a week ago on DVD, and it was an excellent movie. And it is definitely NOT supposed to be a martial arts flick in the same genre as the older movies. The fighting sequences were very well orchestrated, and extremely well executed. Although the story was a little difficult to follow at times, probably somewhat do to the tranlation, and it was a little slow, it is definitely not a bad movie. It was a nice repreive from a lot of the mainstream blockbuster American movies...

My rating: 8 Bad Ass Movie

It was a flashback.

Seems like the audience has spoken :)

It's funny because almost every time I go to visit gf's house they watch quite similar looking tv series from videotape (fighting, romance, magic) and the films are definitely not high-brow culture. Of course the film was visually much better than the tv series, but I don't think the story was so much better.

Maybe it's not actually the film, but the idea that a foreign film can be watched in the US of which the critics and people are delighted. :)

Loved the movie myself. Can't get much better fight scenes than that. And the chinese girls were cute too... :D

?

Thanks Cap, I realy need you to tell me I am full of shit for liking a movie. BTW what exactly was so dumb about the story? Was it the fact that it didn't have a traditional happy ending(like most movies) that my have made you actually think?

The whole flying people thing actually has historical significance. Traditional Chinese believe that there ancestors were able to fly, but that this ability is a lost secret of there ancestors. No this is not bullshit, my Asian Cultural studies professor (which is Chinese) covered this in class along with it being stated in Asian history books(sans the reference to this movie). Yes, in the movie it was done very cheesy, I was rather disapointed since the FX guy was the same one that did the Matrix FX. The same goes for the scene in which they are walking on the bamboo, yet another lost ability.

Most parts of the movie that are "weird" are due to cultural differences. Since I've studied Asia fairly significantly, I spent a good time explaining alot of the movie to my friends which unlike me, don't get off on anything Asian. :D

This was a ok movie, definately not a epic Asian film like some think it is though, I've seen Anime movies more epic than this. It's fairly soap-operaish compared to some/most of the other azn movies I have seen.

With that said, they picked some good actresses, I have a MAJOR Asian fetish and Ziyi Zhang was/is super hot!!! :)

Well, well, it seems the majority liked the movie, hah! Or maybe it was the majority of the intelligent board members ( :D ), sorry couldn't resist that cheap shot.

Captain Awesome, nobody cares about what you say anyhow, nobody intelligent anyways!

I wish I would have seen this post yesterday.

I have the dvd in right now. I saw 1/2 half and kept telling my self its gotta pick up.

The only thing that picked up was the snoring!

HEY....ease up on Howard Man!!!!!!!!!!!! I liked the duck movie.....haven't seen crouching tiger yet ut I may rent it some weekend.

I still can't believe Howard the Duck didn't get nominated for an academy award or at least a Golden Globe....damn it!!!!!:bawling:

It was ok. I don't think it came close to living up all the hype. Shitty plot, shitty ending. They should have smoked that little bitch at the end.

I thought that it was beautifully done. A lot of people who see this film are not used to that genre. And also, yes, I think that there is some cultural stuff that makes it a little strange for people to relate to. I loved it and I think it's great that a foreign language film has made it so big here. There are a couple of other foreign language movies that were great too: All About My Mother (Spain, I think) and Dreamlife of Angels (France). You will cry if you see these. Or atleast your girlfriend will.
