Who has used Trazadone during a Cycle for Sleep?

doublebicep

NorCal Bodybuilder
Platinum
I was wondering, what are some of the experiences are with using trazadone to combat insomnia during cycle?

Also, how did you dose it? Mine come in 150mg tabs.

Should I start with 50mg and work my way up? What works best?

oh man, trazadone, a couple years ago i had depression and i took this at night along with wellbutrin during the day. the traz knocked me out and made me feel pretty shitty in the morning. i would go with ambien personally

Trazodone works great for knocking you out. 50mg should do the trick. You will feel like you got hit in the head with a hammer the next morning.

agree

I took trazodone for the last several months because the evil paxil which my doctor prescribed wouldn't let me sleep. Anyway, trazodone was pretty effective for sleep, its not like ambien or a benzo like xanax, it just makes you really groggy. It does have the negative effect of a bad hangover the next day, makes it tough to get up in the morning. If I were doing a workout in the morning, I'd advise some kind of stimulant in the morning about 45 minutes prior...thats if you even feel like it after the trazodone.

thanks all...I was planing on starting at 50MG around 8PM so hopefully I will not be to groggy in the morning.

i found that trazadone made me groggy and super lazy, but didnt really help me to sleep. You will also build up a tolerance eventually.
i dont recall having any paticular problems waking up in the morning, but it was a while ago

With all the meds i'm on I find it troubling to wind down after a long day (but my workout days help). I take trazdone, but cut them in half to 25 MG. Works well for me! Thanks!

i would rather smoke weed

The tablets came scored to split in halves. I took at half around 9PM - so 75mg. I was out before 10PM. I slept 9 hours! For me that is a long sleep. I think it was quality sleep. (I had a dream that I found a 1000 dollar bill and was going to use it to stock up on Anavar.)

In hindsite, I think 1/3 would be better for me. I know, I should have listened to you pharmguy!

So far, I would say that trazadone works for me. I will prob add it to my arsenal for occasional insomnia along side Ambien and diazepam.

Anyway, I will see how my energy level is around 5PM today at the gym.

Trazodone will definately leave you with a hang over effect in the morning. We normally perscribe our patients ambien in 5 or 10mg, and maybe some elavil in 25mg. The ambien will definately knock you out quick, thats why it is nick named the 10min pill. Elavil takes a bit longer to kick in but usually keeps you asleep longer.

Last report on this topic:

75mg was too much. It left me a little hung over in the morning. My workout for that day did not suffer. It was actually an awesum bicep/tricep/abs day.

Last night I tried 25mg. Perfect. 8 hours of solid sleep with a lot of vivid dreams. No hang over.

I keep ambein and d-pam on hand and wanted to find a third alternative. Trazadone is a good choice for me.

I have suffered from intermittent insomnia since college.

I also inclue 5-htp in my arsenal for sleep. It is particularly good for getting back to sleep if wake up from about 12AM - 4AM.

One good side of 5-htp is that I wake up in a really good mood.

Being a tricyclic anti-depressant what is the mechanism of sleep promoting action behind trazadone? Is this a common effect of all tricyclics? How does it effect sleep quality? Will you spend less time in slow wave sleep?

The sleep quality seems fine at 25mg. (I did have some lucid dreams but felt fine the next day.)

The rest of you question I will bump for more info. Perhaps pharmguy will resond.

GENERIC NAME: trazodone

BRAND NAME: Desyrel
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: : Trazodone is an oral antidepressant drug that affects the chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) within the brain that nerves use to communicate with (stimulate) each other. The major neurotransmitters are acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. Many experts believe that an imbalance among the different neurotransmitters is the cause of depression. Although the exact mechanism of action of trazodone is unknown, it probably improves symptoms of depression by inhibiting the uptake of serotonin by nerves in the brain. This results in more serotonin to stimulate other nerves. Trazodone also may increase directly the action of serotonin.

!!!!!Trazodone is chemically "unrelated" to the serotonin reuptake inhibitors , the tricyclic antidepressants or the monoamine oxidase inhibitors . It is chemically related to nefazodone (Serzone) and shares its actions. Trazodone was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1982.

New update: I am now taking 10mg ambien along with 15mg of Tranxene about 45min prior to bedtime. Again the ambien works fast and the tranxene works throughout the night. No hangover in the morning either.

I am currently working with my doctor to get me off Trazdone. I sleep too much during the day when I use it. thanks! Alan.

Does traz have addictive qualities? I have been taking it and the sleep is wonderful. I do not awaken more than once a night and would like to keep it in my regiment for sleeping as I do tend to constantly wake during the night, but I don't want to develop a dependency.
