450 after putting the faster bigger SSD and 2 gig of ram in it

Dell was (might still be) selling the base model for 199 bucks, but the hard drive is only like 8 gig. you can get a 32 gig ssd for 100 bucks or a 64 for about 200. 32 gig is plenty for os and apps, then use a cheap high capacity sd card for storage of files. Ultimately, you have to really want a super mobile platform, otherwise, you might as well get a 600 dollar 15" lappy.

I got an Acer Aspire 14 inch normal laptop a few years ago for $229. 80GB HD, RAM was low so I upgraded that to 1GB. it is very lightweight, DVD burner etc., 4 hour batter life etc. It is by far the best deal I have ever gotten and dollar for dollar I say it is better than the Thinkpads and Toshiba's I have owned in the past.

my last laptop was a 13" which i liked because of its smaller size, but i like this one even more. It's built exactly the way I want it, it would fit in smurfys purse if she needed to take it somewhere, and i can marinate on EF for four hours on battery before it dies. They do make a 9 cell battery that gets 8+ hrs.

It's incredible.

I'd probably put Linux on it. If I connect to another computer via x11 I'd be using the processor on the other box anyway.

I've had a few didn't like it so I switched to a Mac. I'm thinking of getting one again though for when I travel and will use LogMeIn to get back to the Mac.

I just want something to surf with while sitting on the bed or out on the balcony, but I don't want a tiny screen.

Even with reading glasses my eyes aren't good enough to use one of those tiny-ass little screens.
