Who got infected by Microsoft Worm today ??

gtrcivic

Olympian
damn, that worm got into the network here at work... Screwed up everyones computer yesterday afternoon and most of today. Somehow it only hit mine about 1 hr ago and not any more.

Hit our home computer yesterday.

Fortunately we were able to download and install all Windows updates from Microsoft between shutdowns and now it's OK.

I dont think I have it,I got the patch yesterday and Norton 2003 working on my side

since I got this pc the monitor shuts itself off for 5 secs every now and then,I gotta get it fixed but have no time

I got it Friday, but had no clue what was wrong. I went out of town and got it fixed yesterday by downloading the patch from Microsoft.

Imagine the kind of destruction that the people who released this worm could have done?

Tey let you save the data benfore shutdown. Imagine if it automatically formatted your hard drive? DEATH!

Keep trying to download the update in between shutoffs...we were able to finally and sometimes you get more than the 45-60 seconds.

Oddly enough, not one of my macs or my linux boxes got infected.

GO figure.

but the Mac unfortunately still has that shitty keyboard, which is perhaps more of a tragedy in the end.

I have put it up on 4 computers with no reboot yet - need to reboot them when more people leave the office.
although I'm tempted just to do it duriing the day and let them fucking deal with it.

there are still about 8 more than need it.

both here and at home I have pretty strict firewalls up, so I'm not terribly worried just yet.

I'm more worried of those firewalls having vulnerabilities

Stops it permanently?

supposed to stop it from shutting down in that instance....so you can keep downloading. it will probably try to keep doing it eventually.

mine would shut down every 15 minutes or so last nigth when it started happening.

word up.

the other night my g/f said she wasn't in the mood because I pissed her off earlier that day. then I used "the code" on her and next thing you know I was giving her the donkey punch. it was great.

Oddly enough, none of my W2k boxes were infected, either. But.... I also apply patches and sit behind a firewall.

Fortunately, I run a hot-rodded millenium platform, so Im unaffected.

I run Windows 2003 Advanced Server WITH a hardware firewall. No fucker can touch me thank you.

Kidvilla can hack you in 15 seconds man.

I got around it by rebooting the computer right when it turns back on by hitting the F11 key. I am going to have to take mine in tomorrow though and have it cleaned out. My tech guy said the only program he found that will keep it from hitting you again is Norton 2003.

Isn't he up to about 30 days with his hack attempt on you?

Actually he got all righteous on me and said he was "taking the high road" by not proving me wrong.

Thread shift - did you ever do any computer work with Genetic Algorithms / Neural Networks?

Neural nets, yeah in college we had a an intro into it.
Genetic computing or genetic algorithms?

I worked under someone doing genetic computing research, which got scrapped after 18 months of work.

But nothing specific surrounding genetic algorithms.

you'll need this removal tool also.

I have 2 firewalls both set at the highest security and a router(built in firewall) and keep my shit up to date and STILL got this fuckin worm.

Yep, I have my network locked up and I got it too. First time I ever got a virus on a machine I used. I still refuse to run virus software though. More trouble than its worth. I don't plan on getting any more virii anyway.

I fear the phone calls I'll be getting tomorrow. I set up 30 different office sites with DSL all across PA and NJ these past few weeks, and 90% of the PC's weren't doing regularly scheduled virus scans.

Mine only shut down when I was using MSN Messenger... then the autoupdates dl'd the fixer. :)

C-ditty

that shit pissed me off so bad, props to microsoft for getting the patch right quickly. but shame shame, for allowing there to be something able to be exploited like that.
