well in response to the whole coupon thread, i realized that the other day i looked at my Kroger's receipt and saw that my annual savings since January has been 125 dollars by using my kroger card..

i think thats more than just worth the trouble of filling out the stupid little application for the free kroger's card.

Neal Boortz talked about "prefered customer" cards on a recent show, and how he dislikes them. Seems they collect all the information on you for the purposes of selling the info to marketers. Problem is, right after 9/11, one chain, which he refused to name, offered all the information on their customers to the Justice Department, as a good citizen effort, to aid the DOJ in catching the terrorists.

Not something I remember agreeing to when filling out the application.

Well, keep in mind that whenever you sign up for cards like these the store keeps track of you, your habits, and often puts you on mailing lists. So it's free and we're getting deals, but there are drawbacks. We give up some privacy.

I just use an alias for these cards.

we don't have Krogers up here, nor Wegmans, etc etc. But we have Stop and Shops and Star markets. I have a Star card... or rather a Shaws card since that is who is behind Star Markets.

Just lie about your personal info when filling out those type of things. Like others have mentioned, the info you provide is usually sold to other companies.

i used to work for A & P grocery stores and we have the card.. i believe that they did use your info with deals in conjunction with other companies... but yeah, i looked on my reciept and it was $163 for year to date savings.. not too shabby,

At my local kroger, even if you do not have one they just scan one they have at the register. I get the savings regardless.

I can't stand those crap cards, all they do is raise the prices and make you have a card to geta decent normal price. Think about it around here any gas station or store a 2-liter coke is no mor than 99 cents maybe 1.19 at BP's but at Kroger's it's 1.99 if you don't have the card and then their "red tag" sale crap is even worse 3 2-liter's for 3-4 bucks. The thing that really pisses me off is when I ain't driving and run in to get something with my card on the key chain at home, and they try to charge the crap outta me. If you want your basic cheap food go to Aldi's-Save-a-lot, or Meijer they all kick the crap outta Krogers and their little crap card crapcrapcrap The only good is some store's I can by my pins from.
