I worked at Wendy's for short while (3 months). If anyone here eats the chili from wendy's and just thinks it's the cat's pajamas, think again.
I used to be the dude that grilled burgers and on the first day of "training" I learned how wendy's chili comes to be. There was this metal drawer, kind of like a sock drawer, which had a label that said "chili meat" on it. When I asked what that meant, the asst. manager told me that whenever someone accidentally burned or messed up one of the burgers they were cooking, they were to put it in this container.
After a while, this thing piled up with fuckin nasty, burnt or otherwise mangled hanburger meat. At the end of the day, this drawer would be emptied into a huge 10 gallon drum and mixed with 90% water, some veggies and some seasoning. This drum would be heated under a stove and sold as chili.
Any particular batch of chili generally lasts about 2 weeks. It is simply reheated every day and kept in a special pot that keeps it really hot. Before working there, I had eaten the chili on a few occasions and it sickened me to know that some of the shit I ate may have been 10 days old and made up of the meat no one wanted.
Needless to say, I never ate the chili there again. Trust me, stay away from the chili and the meat and you'll be fine. The chicken, fries and nuggets are all clean. So are the baked potatoes and salads.
