Which do you prefer to live in/own

I've lived in a 2 family house with my parents....were they rented out their upstairs apartment. Also rented an apartment from someone living above them. And now I own my own house.....single family house.

Im not sure which is the best. Its great owning your own place and building equity but its such a hassle maintaining everything. I dont go out much cause I spend most of my time either working or working on the house. And the very little extra $$ that I have goes into house projects/repairs/maintanence. When I rented I had extra time to enjoy myself and extra $$ to buy whatever I wanted and go on nice trips. It didnt take much time to clean the apartment too. However its not yours. What do you guys think is the best living situtation.

obviously depends on the situation.

For me, I've only ever rented. But I'm 28 now and every month I just get angry at pissing away X amount of money on rent. All the other shit aside (time/money spent on upkeep) in the end it's still an investment.

When I was younger I owned a three bedroom condo by the beach. No maintance of common areas and roomates almost paid for the place. Bar within walking distance. I didn't spend much time at home. Got married and roommates had to go. Kids and dogs were next and a large lot and bigger home were needed.

All depends on what your doing.

Old people tend to down size and move to places that that don't require outside maintance.
