Which Car Should I Buy?

OK I AM TRADING IN MY 1998 GMC JIMMY WHICH I JUST BOUGHT LAST YEAR AND OWE 12,800 ON. HERE ARE MY 3 CHOICES:
1. 1995 VOLVO 940 TURBO WITH LEATHER PWR EVERYTHING AND 70,000 MILES THEY WANT 11,000
2.1995 LINCOLN MARK VIII PEARL WHITE 77,000 MILES LEATHER PWR EVERYTHING, MOON ROOF INTEGRATED PHONE LOADED
THEY WANT 12,000
3. 1996 LINCOLN MARK VIII PEARL WHITE SAME AS ABOVE BUT WITH 66,000 MILES THEY WANT 13,995

I AM SURE ALL PRICES ARE NEGOTIABLE BUT I HAVE NEGATIVE EQUITY IN MY TRADE AND WANT SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE STYLISH AND BETTER GAS MILAGE.

WHAT TO DO?

That is quite easy. The Volvo is the obvious choice. It will be better on gas, more powerful (at mid revs, where it really counts) and it is not American.

Although Lincoln is one of the better American cars, it is still not on the same level as the Volvo.

In addition, you are being hosed on the price of the Lincoln. A fair private party purchase would be 10,000-11,000 for the 95. If you are buying it at dealer then at least you know it is in good shape and sometimes that is worth the extra couple thousand.

The Volvo is by far the better choice and it will retain its value more. Finally, it is a turbo!!

well, what id do is sell your jimmy yourself. you will get more for it then a dealer will give you, and id dont see why you couldnt sell it for $13,000 if its decent condition. it takes a little longer, but youll save money, dont be in a hurry.
also, why are you getting a new car allready, if you just got that one last year. if you keep tradin cars in every year, youll keep gaining negative equity, and soon owe 30,000 on a 10,000 dollar car.
anyways, i almost bought a mark 8 a couple years ago, nice car, but too many old farts got them. id go for the volvo, with a nice pair of rims, and drop it a couple inches, it would be a sweet and unique ride. but be careful, at 70k miles, the turbo may need to be replaced soon.

BUT 2 THICK THE VOLVO IS NOT VERY FAST. IT IS A 4 CYLINDER WITH A TURBO. THE LICOLN LOOKS COOLER AND HAS MORE TOYS THOUGH. BUT WHICH DO YOU THINK WOULD LAST LONGER?
THE VIII IS DAMN FAST TOO.

I'd hope that the 280hp Mark VIII is faster than a 162hp Volvo but you said you were looking for better gas mileage.

The Lincoln does look sleeker and is much faster but it will definitely not last longer than the Volvo.

But the Mark VIII V8 should hold up for a long time.

Hrmmm, at first I was thinking Volvo all the way, but then again, I'm nearly 21 and like all the horsepower I can get. Depends, do you want style, class and unique (the Volvo) or do you want to blend in with everybody's grandparents? Heh, if ya want to go that route I know of a great trailer park in Florida you can frequent! Heh =P

Seriously though bro, I'd still go for the Volvo. I just hope you don't live in mid-Michigan where your neighbors are ready to cut you ear-to-ear for buying foreign. Hrmmm, well that and it's just a bitch to find a place that will service them!

Phumunda :)

OK THE 96 ONE IN QUALITY CERTIFIED FROM THE LINCOLN DEALERSHIP SO THAT IS GOOD. SERIOUSLY NOW TWO QUESTIONS

1. WHICH ONE WILL I HAVE LESS MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH?
2. WHICH WILL I GET MO BIATCHES WITH?
3. OK ONE MORE GIVE ME THE PROS AND CONS OF BOTH?

2THICK,CARS ARENT YOUR EXPERTISE.

CARS ONLY LAST AS LONG AS YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM.

VOLVO IS A GOOD CAR BUT WILL BE PRICIER TO MANTAIN.
PARTS ARE A LITTLE MORE AS WELL.

WEIGH THE PROS AND THE CONS.

ME ID PICK ONE OF THE LINCOLNS.

That is where you are wrong. I have been around used car dealers for a long time. I know the ins and outs of cars like most people never will.

If you take a Volvo and a Lincoln and rag on them for 10 years, the Volvo will end up in better shape 9 out of 10 times.

That is why you see many older Volvos on the rode and hardly any old Lincolns.

STEEL BEAST, WHICH ONE THE 96 FOR 14,000 WITH 66K CERTIFIED OR THE 1995 WITH 77,000 OWNED BY AN OLD GUY FOR 12K BOTH ARE PERL WHITE.

Keep the Jimmy.... I had one with the 4.3 and I drove it until it had 360,000 miles on it then sold it for $1800 more than I paid for it. But if are going to sell it... Volvo is a good car... but replacing the turbo will be expensive if it were to break

OK I DO NOT BEAT ON MY CARS, I DO ALL SCHEDULE STUFF, I DRIVE GOOD. I WANT THE CAR THAT WILL LAST AT LEAST 5 YEARS, BE FUN TO DRIVE AND WOMEN WONT LAUGHT AT IT . SO WHICH IS IT EXPERTS?

THE JIMMY SUCKS ASS FOR GAS MILAGE, HS 4X4 WHICH I NEVER USE SINCE I MOVED AND IS BUMPY. WHICH OF THE OTHER TWO OR CONVINCE ME REALLY GOOD TO KEEP THE JIMMY.

1. The Lincoln will be easier to fix for the average mechanic because it is an American V8. The turbo will confuse most average mechanics.

2. You will get more women with the Lincoln because the styling of the Volvo has always been bland and conservative.

3. Lincoln:

Pros: V8 280hp, sleeker styling, sportier feel (although it will not be remotely close to a sports car), easier to fix and find parts for, and great feel on the highway

Cons: It is American, high gas costs, rear wheel drive and high HP will cause awful traction in rain, and snowy conditions, its American, two-door so higher insurance costs, its American, and it it driven mostly by old people.

Volvo:

Pros: It is Swedish, it has 4 doors and superior safety features (so lower insurance), it has a peppy turbo engine, it has better gas mileage, it has superior highway cruising and nimbleness in the city, is more structurally sound and it will retain its value much longer.

Cons: Bland styling, having to use a certified mechanic to look after the turbo, trying to finds parts and aftermarket accessories.

Heres my 2 cents......take a day and drive them both not just 10 minutes but a good while... you should be able to make up your mine then..remember you're buying for"YOU"!!! RADAR

the volvo is more exotic, and shows class. but you sound like your mind is made up, so go buy the lincoln if thats what you want.

and if you have a friend whos a mechanic take them by to be checked over and get his opinion!!! RADAR

the Jimmy will outlast all of them if you take care of it. Trust me on this... and 4X4 hold their valu... ask anyone... this is not bullshit. Keep the Jimmy... or I will have to find you.

OK I'M NOW LEANING TOWARDS THE VOLVO, ITS STYLING IS CONSERVATIVE YET CLASSY. I AM ONLY SCARED ABOUT THE TURBO THINGY BREAKING. DO VOLVO DEALERSHIPS HAVE CERTIFIED USED VOLVOS IF SO I WILL GO LOOK THERE TOMMOROW BUT IF I CAN GET THE VOLVO FOR 10,500 THEN IT WILL PROBABLY BE A DEAL. DO YOU THINK 70,000 ON A 1995 IS PRONE TO PROBLEMS SOON. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO PUT ANY MONEY INTO IT AFTER I BUY IT.

DBALL I BOUGHT THE CAR LAST YEAR AND SEVERL MONTHS AT AUCTION COST OF 15,900. IT IS NOW WORTH AROUND 10,000 ON TRADE IN. I HAVE NO USE FOR 4X4 HER IN LAS VEGAS. BETTER CONVINCE ME BETTER.

Having 70k in a 6 year old car is average.

I laughed when you said that you do not want to put more money into the car once you buy it. That is impossible because car are endless money pits that will drain your wallet until the day you start riding trains and buses.

With that being said, take the cars to a certified Volvo/Lincoln mechanic and pay $50 for a comprehensive checklist. It will tell you everything you need to know about the body and engine.

for god sake... I was a porsche mech. for 2 years... do not buy that car!!! Lincons are for old people.... just keep the god damn Jimmy!!!! It is newer... the gas milege sucks... but you think it will be better in a Lincon????

I have owned 1 Jimmy and 1 s-10 blazer... both went past 300K.... just change the oil. Do yourself a favor and listen to me on this one....... I know you have no reason to... but for God's sake.. the turbo on that Volvo is about $1400 used.... listen to reason... The Jimmy!!!!!

OK WHY IS IT MY BACK BREAKS ON THE JIMMY THEY SAID WERE LIKE 600 TO REPLACE BECAUSE OF SOME SPECIAL PART. THEY WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED NEXT YEAR SO WHY SO MUCH?

dballer has a point, my friend had a 94 jimmy, witch was wraged on every weekend for the 4 years he owned it. we would drag race it with anyone who would look sideways at us, revin it up dumpin the clutch, and then go booney hoppin in the woods with it, splashin through the mud, sinkin it twice in the swamps, and the freakin thing never broke down. also, it was put throgh 3 accidents, 2 to the front, and 1 to the rear, and even with some minor frame damage, the thing ran greta.

LIE!!! I have a 98 ZR2 truck.. same thing with a slightly diffrent engine. You can fuckin do the brakes yourself... why? Because they are gonna charge you $200 for each rotor... then $100 to put them on... If I lived there I would do it for you for a bucket of protien. It is easy as hell!!!! Don't listen to those assholes.. there is no special part. And if there was... would $600 for breaks be worse than $1400-$2400 for a turbo???

I have been around cars all of my life... I build race cars for a hobby... I work on my own cars. I built my own 600hp 427 big block chevy drag car... bro.. trust me... keep the Jimmy. You will be happy in the long run. Just keep the oil changed and it will never break!!!

Why do you guys want a fast car?

THE VIII IS DAMN FAST TOO.

Isn't the speed limit in the US not 60 MPH (which is a joke of course).

youn wont lower your payments much, those cars are older, so they wont finance you as long. theyll most likly give you shorter finaceing, meaning higher payments. youd be better off tryin to refinace your truck, since its a 98', or find somthing newer.

pos

The Lincoln is a P.O.S, my housemate has one and it is CONSTANT electrical problems, tranny problems, shitty interior quality...it has a nice engine, but fuck it. you could work the turbo on the volvo anyway with a few little toys. I wouldn't get the volvo either though...but it is a better car
