Trane and Carrier are mosly commericial brands and are built like tanks. Bryant is residential quality.

We had a Singer (yes same as the sewing machine) A/C when I was growing up.
Very quiet and lasted years...

My grandfather was high up at Singer for many years - they made very quality motors, quiet and efficient. Wasn't aware that they made air conditioners.

I have pissed in my share of AC systems, but I never paid much attention to names other than Carrier.

brand new or already installed in an existing home?

consumer reports recommended either amana or lennox for several years.

the central a/c in my house was replaced about 6 years ago with amana's top of the line high efficiency unit...a scroll compressor with less moving parts and higher efficiency than a older style compressor.

my electric bill dropped and the comfort level in the house improved; I am completely satisfied with the amana unit.
