Whey Protein

Should you have whey protein on non workout days or is it pretty much pointless?

The only time I ever have whey protein is directly after a workout.
 
Bro. If you are on gear you need 300-400 grams of protein.

If your off probably 1 gram per pound of body weight.

I take 3 to 4 shakes a day with warm water. Tastes like hot chocolate. Pretty good and absorbes much better than with milk.

If you are mixing your 40g shake with milk it is probably not absorbing. If you use water it will take about 3 hours. A general guidline is that your body can suposedly only able to absorb 30-40 grams every 3 hrs. But on gear I bet it is more since the metabolism is in overdrive. Also, if you are taking it right after your workout great work.

The peak times to intake protein are in the morning right when you get up.

after workout.

and late night snack.

If you are trying to stay cut up. Try using ProComplex chocolate and mix it with hot water. The hot water will also speed up absorbtion and it completely dissolves the protein so none is left in the glass.

VIP, I'm curious, why would the 40g shake powder with milk not absorb, but take 3 hours with water? not trying to sound like a smart ass, just asking.
 
VIP I have no problem consuming protein. I can easily get 300+ per day coming from food if I wanted too. My point is, is whey protein utilized the same way as it is taken after a workout. My belief is no and I have been told by other bodybuilders that taking whey protein during other parts of the day is pointless.

This is incorrect. Whey protein is absorbed well and not wasted by any means at any time (its just more advantageous at certain times...)
