What are peoples opinions on Supplements as everyone on this site seems to use them alot.
I take Whey, but only on workout days as a postworkout shake the rest of my 200grams a day comes from food, I don't think protein shakes are much use otherwise, as it seems to me that the best source of materials to build muscle are other animal's muscles (and eggs of course, I bet Human flesh is great for Muscle growth!), also Science has not discovered or explained yet how we utilise all the other components of whole foods, there it yet still alot we can find out about nutrition.
I've tried ZMA which is a total waste of money.
Glutamine, 90% of it is absorbed & utlised by the intestines so less than 10% of what you eat gets to your muscles, the body can produce it away so its not like its not going to make enough to satisfy its needs is it?
Creatine, it worked for a while but it ruined my appetite so compromised the amount of real food I could eat
GABA, load of shit
All of these supplements and more are substances the body can produce itself (in the required quantity) and if you eat a good diet you should get enough of the substrates needed by your body to produce them. So why bother? I am not saying that they do nothing I am just saying that they don't do much for the money, and that the science behind alot of these products is shakey at best. I think people like spending money on their hobbies and supplements are an outlet for that. No protein bar will ever be better than eating a chicken breast so why eat inferior food sources that cost more money?
