Whey Protein & other Supplements

What are peoples opinions on Supplements as everyone on this site seems to use them alot.

I take Whey, but only on workout days as a postworkout shake the rest of my 200grams a day comes from food, I don't think protein shakes are much use otherwise, as it seems to me that the best source of materials to build muscle are other animal's muscles (and eggs of course, I bet Human flesh is great for Muscle growth!), also Science has not discovered or explained yet how we utilise all the other components of whole foods, there it yet still alot we can find out about nutrition.

I've tried ZMA which is a total waste of money.

Glutamine, 90% of it is absorbed & utlised by the intestines so less than 10% of what you eat gets to your muscles, the body can produce it away so its not like its not going to make enough to satisfy its needs is it?

Creatine, it worked for a while but it ruined my appetite so compromised the amount of real food I could eat

GABA, load of shit

All of these supplements and more are substances the body can produce itself (in the required quantity) and if you eat a good diet you should get enough of the substrates needed by your body to produce them. So why bother? I am not saying that they do nothing I am just saying that they don't do much for the money, and that the science behind alot of these products is shakey at best. I think people like spending money on their hobbies and supplements are an outlet for that. No protein bar will ever be better than eating a chicken breast so why eat inferior food sources that cost more money?

I agree for the most part.....I've wasted alot of money on unnecessary supps....including protein....IMO shakes and MRP are best used for conveinence and your macros should come from real food if possible....that being said I do believe in shakes and MRPs.

A good Multi Vitamin is all you need if you are not on any other substances. If you are using gear there are a flury of supps that help you and keep you healthy......

Other supps I think there are a big use for when not on gear....are thermos (ie ECA)...r-ala (a God send)...and possibly aminoes.

Again...this is just my opinion and experience.

Stuff like protein and vitamins, it's best to get them from wholefood sources but they do have their place on a diet.
then there's some stuff out there that claim to do things but have very little effect and your proably wasting money on them

whey protein is a great way to ensure you are getting all the protein you need.

multivitamin is a must

creatine, in my opinion is the one of the few supplements that produces noticable results....a lot of people bash it because they lose the weight once they go off - mainly because they don't understand why it's helpful.

Thermos help me tremendously

When I take ZMA, I sleep like a log....I'll take it every now and then on a night I had a heavy workout.

otherwise, I might pop a Melatonin to sleep.

R-ALA

Flax oil

that's pretty much it for me
