Okay, I think it's pretty well known that I can't stand techno/house/trance/jungle/d&b/whatever-the-flavor-of-the-week-is-in-dance-music type stuff, and think most DJs are toolbags.
That said, I recently had to deal with a show by one of the Beastie Boys, he was "spinning" rather than rapping or playing. First of all, all his tracks were on a laptop and he used the two turntables with some piece of software, I fergit what it's called, that allows him to use the turntables to scratch even though the LP records aren't the sound source. I suppose you fanboys will instantly know what I'm talking about. Anyway, all his audio sources sounded crappy and low-fi, like really low-rate MP3s. Secondly, his mix was a trainwreck from start to finish, it was just too busy, like he had to throw in everything he knew, every second.
Oh, looked it up, it's "Serato".
Anyway, I thought he was aggressively bad, and totally hated it, even more than I usually hate DJ shows. The local support dudes at least had a certain "flow", even if it did tend to sound like the same "song" for 45 minutes at a time.
