where are "passwords" stored on a computer?

it's called "dontlookhere.txt"
Go to C: Documents and Settings and in each profiles folder find Cookies folder and kill the cookies
Then go to the 'local settings' folder in those same profiles and wipe out the history and temporary internet files
also use Tools - internet options - clear history in explorer

I use Netscape so it is a little dif than Explorer, but in explorer it is under internet options you can find and delete cookies.
There should have been a box to check if you wanted to store the password on the computer, if you did not check box - it should nopt have stored psswd.

In this amount of time there is nothing you can do about index.dat. But no worries, I don't believe the password is stored there.

Also use shift+delete when deleting so it doesn't go to the recycle bin.
That way if the guy has stuff in the bin it will still be there because you won't have to empty the bin to 'clean' the computer.

#1 I have someone's computer.
#2 I let someone use MY computer and they logged into certain sites using a password.
Are traces of that password stored on the computer?

There are hundreds of programs you can install that will capture keystroke... just go out on the internet and do a search for "keystroke loggers"
Passwords are stored in different locations depending on the OS. It really depends on the OS.
I will try to put it as simply as possible. On any OS in the world. If you have access to the terminal... you can retreive ANY password on the box.
There are zillions of programs out there to decrypt password files from all MS OS's, Unix OS's
the trick is being able to get to the terminal and getting at the hard drive.
If you can actually get to the machine and get the hard drive for even an hour... whoa boy... you can have whatever you want.

You don't really have anything to worry about.
However, sites like this can store your log in information in cookie form.
You merely need to log out from the board and it will clear the cookie for you.
For e-mail sites and such, unless you have selected to have it "Remember" you, it shouldn't.

If you guys remember back in Nov, I had two associates in Chicago that deliberately made me lose a 60K deal. (they were fired later).
Ok, one thing that has bothered me was that when I was going over the entire process and reviewing all the mistakes, there were times that they were cutting me off at corners before I even got there. Unless they were pyschic, there was no way of knowing where and what avenue or direction I was taking. For a while, I have long suspected that my assistant was the one feeding them information about my actions. No one else knew, but he knew my travel schedule and who I was talking with.
I have his laptop here. I know for a fact he still remains in touch with these two ex-employees. If I can find his password to various sites, I can double check my suspicions and get his ass canned a lot faster.

AAP, Here:
Open Internet Exlorer > Tools > Internet Options > Content (tab) > Then under Personal Information select "Autocomplete". Select the "Clear Passwords".
It's that simple.

Ok, I'm confused after reading further on the thread...
Are you trying to delete your passwords off of another computer like you originally stated, or are you trying to steal someone's password?

I should have clarified... use google to serach... and

and NTX boxes uyou have to be able to get to the SAM... a little difficult and decrypting it with a third party app will take some time.
You will have to do a little research to do this... but in any case you have to have access to the hard drive to get at these files... which you do... so the HARDEST part is already accomplished.

I ran back to the lab and tested the 9X demo version... it works well. fast too
dont have time to test the 2K/XP one but Im sure it will do what you need.
I did notice the 2k/XP demo version will recover short passwords... so if these guys were boneheads and used passwords like "cat" you can get at them with the demo version.

Well today was certainly VERY interesting to say the least. Two things that I have found out today :
#1 He did do just what I had been suspecting.
#2 His ass is getting canned ASAP.
The only thing I have to work out is how to get the evidence to my boss (The President) without it appearing I did something immoral to obtain it. (I wouldn't do anything immoral right? shut up )
So, I have printed off copies of the evidence and I am going to mail them to a non-business associate in Ohio (the area this concerns), he is just going to put them in a new envelope and remail them to my boss here. Anonymously.
this way, I will be in FLL when the package is mailed and received (my alibi) and no one will suspect that I was the one who instigated the whole thing.

The president will obviously be suspicious as to how the "evidence" was obtained. Surely he will confront the snitch, and possibly show the snitch what he received. Will the snitch be able to make out that the evidence was directly from his computer? If so, they will know someone was lurking.

Actually, my boss was firmly against this guy working for me from the very start. He had a lateral transfer when I started with the company from his ex-boss who was promoted. We both got rid of him then by assigning him to another upstart.
When I was made VP of Business Development, I absorbed everyone in the department under my supervision. Actually, I have the power to fire him myself, however, I can't do that without revealing how I came to obtain the evidence.
He has been written up in the past countless time for failing to maintain adequate work performance, leaving early, falsfying his time sheet, attitude problems, etc.... this will be the final straw.

He shows up at 910am, even though his scheduled hours begin at 8AM. He was really surprised to see me. Especially since I am sitting on the edge of his desk waiting. He asked me "what you are doing in on a Friday, you never come in on a Friday?"
I asked him "what time you got there?"
He was like "908AM".
I say "what time you suppose to be here?"
He goes "uh..... 800AM?"
I say "Yes. So you are late right?"
He goes "yeah, a little" (WTF? an hour is a little?)
I tell him "go get a tardy slip".
He goes "A tardy slip? When did we have to start getting tardy slips? This isn't junior high".
I told him "go down to HR, tell them you are late, have them deduct it from your vacation pay and bring me back the paper."
(For the record there is no such thing as a tardy slip, I just wanted to get his ass moving to let everyone know he was late.)
Amazingly, he just stood there looking at me blankly. He (can you believe it?) says "Why do I have to do that? You come in at anytime you want to and never have to do it. No one says anything to you about being late."
I stood up and looked down at him and asked him "Have you seen the name plate on my office door? The one with MY name on it? Ever noticed that besides my name is the word EXECUTIVE? If you had noticed that, you would be aware that the title alone excludes me from 99% of the rules you have to follow. Now shift directions and get me that tardy slip."
The rest of the secretarys were sitting around the cubicle farm just staring at him. (they all hate him because they have to cover for his sorry ass when he doesn't do his job)
So... he flounced off and got the slip.
Then half an hour ago (1100), he comes in and informs me that he has to leave early to take his son (3 years old) to the doctor.
(now, his wife does NOT work. 27 years old and has NEVER had a job in her life. A true Jewish Princess. She doesn't work and he has to run home constantly and take care of things around the house, even though she is home all day. And she has her own car)
I ask him "hows your wife?"
He goes "good"
I ask "is she at home?"
He says "yeah"
I say "give her a call and tell her to take her child to the doctor, she isn't working and you have to be here because Jeannie is on vacation and you have to do that filing of hers that you haven't done all week. And it ALL has to be done today."

I know you`re having fun AAP and I`m CERTAINLY on your side bro, But for this week before you fire him he can conjure up something like harrassment or whatever ESPECIALLY the way you`re turning up the heat on him. I may be totally off base here, Just looking out for you.
he cant really say its harassment when he is violating corporate policy and getting reprimanded for it. it must be great to see him squirm and be miserable. I would continue to make his job suck for a while until I felt better about the 60K(which would never happen) so once I got bored Id can his ass. Better make the next few days worthwhile b4 your boss gets the anonymous envelope.

This mornings example will allow other cooworkers to see what`s going on in case there`s need for witnesses as well. I could just see it now... Had he said "let's talk in private about this", I would have. Or worse, if I didn't, he would have a legitimate complaint. Also, I never insulted him. My comments about his wife and mother, while directly pointed, can be labeled as suggestions if he were to ever complain. I "suggested" he get his wife to take the baby. I "suggested" he make it a family affair. I "suggested" he reschedule the appointment if the lunch date was more important. So, he really has no legitimate complaint to stand upon.
