When you buy anti-virus software,

Is it just for a year? I remember buying it a few times. I can`t find it on my computer, I must have deleted them. I may have a virus or maybe not... If I buy the software, how long is it good for? Are there free ones out there? To check for a simple problem. (screen flickering and words superimposed on each other).

AVG 6.0 is a decent free version. Or you can to and run housecall.trendmicro.com which is a free online check that is also very good.

Thanks all, k for you guys. I just scanned my whole computer and had no viruses. I guess that`s good but I still have parts of the screen turning white and words superimposed on each other. Can that be a windows update?

1] check for spywares

2] Maybe it is your monitor ?

Not the moniter. It only happens after I chat through IM`s . or if I`m away from my computer and come back and someone had IM`ed me and the popup window comes up.

The scrollbar seems to flicker, among other things like the superimosing of words on each other and white out of certain parts of the page. I ultimately have to restart computer for it to go away until the next "chat" lol

I've got norton from when i bought my computer, but the virus upates have expired and it wants me to pay. so if i just uninstall and reinstall it will give me the free updates again?

sometimes some programs that are run on a free trial basis and expire after a certain time frame actually put a file in your registry. This file is what sometimes prevents you from uninstalling then reinstalling the program just to keep gettin the free version. If this is the case with Norton you must go into your registry and delete that file. Just be careful what you delete out of your registry as there are many important files for windows there.
