A guy who does the tats told me that getting dark ink (like black) hurts more than the other colors. Why is that??

no... but sometimes they go deeper with it I think

I find getting a certain color over another hurts more very hard to believe.

When getting an outline, only one needle is being used and it's ripping across the grain/skin and hurts like a bitch.

The coloring involves 7-12 needles, depending on the gun and is focused on one spot at a time that doesn't hurt as badly.

Maybe he meant that?

Does it really?
I have a home made tatoo (small one) that I did myself, no machine, just a niddle, ink ant tiers.

i have two colored tats but they did not hurt at all. course, that might have been because i have them on my shoulders

the number of needles can definetly change the pain you feel. most of my outline work was done with a 7 needle configuration. i have one on my calf that was done with 3 needle. that was an interesting feeling.

the "rake" always felt "good."

solid blackwork does hurt though, but mainly for the time factor involved. if you want it to really be black and not grey, they have to go over it over and over and over again. that droning on and on in the same spot really gets to you after a while. granted, for any color to be deep and even enough, they've got to do this, but with black it seems to show much much more when it's not completely even.

i was completely obliterated when i got my arm band done. i still had scabs on part of it after almost a month, it just wouldn't heal over. there's also some light spots in it that could definetly be touched up, but i was told that over the scarred area is going to be real tricky to touch up and make look good again. don't ever get a tattoo when drunk. the amount of alcohol i had in me at the time probably had something to do with the scarring.

One of my tattoos is in the inside face of my bicep, and it was painful.
The other is in my chest, almost reaching my delt and it was painful.
Definitely the difference is in the needle configuration.
