When do you do dead lifts?

I never did dead lifts before but I'm about to start. It may be a dumb question but do you do them with legs or with another some other body part?

I do SL deadlifts on leg day after squats, but regular deadlifts are now the foundation of my back routine so I start back day with them.

I've been doing them on leg day. I get the best quad blast doing deads then squats. I've had people here say back day... and all the hardcore guys I know at Gold's Venice say absolutely leg day.

It makes it tough to decide.

The only "solution" I can think of is to train quads and back the same day. Why not?

I was actually thinking of doing that Sofa...Becuase of work I do not have enough recovery time to fry my lower back twice in a week.

Sofa,
Seriously bro, if you can do squats after deadlifts you aren't deadlifting right. I usually have to lay on the floor for a while before I can even scratch my ass. You plan on doing a productive bunch of squats afterwards??? imo, a very bad idea

Paulos,
I'm pretty sure you can now claim to have the most disturbing avatar:sulk:

Bro, two good sets of anything and I see my numbers drop through the floor.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just trying to figure out how to work volume and max effort.

You guys do deadlifts? Aren't those bad for your back? lol

Seriously...I may go for a new PR tomorrow...if my back can hold out.

:lmao: :lmao:

I get the strangest looks when I finish a set of deads, set the bar down, and just fall backwards. It's usually a good half-a-minute before there's any movement out of me. :D

Do squats on leg day, do bench on chest day, and do deadlifts on back day. Build on these exercises and you will grow. Skip them cause they hurt and leave you feeling dumb and dizzy, and you will look like a person who cannot handle the pain of these incredible mass building exercises.

well i've only done them 2 times so far, but i do them on back day. (which seems to work well, so....)

Keep up the good work bro. Next thing you know, you'll be pullin 5 plates!!!

all,

if one were to get sore from dl'ing what area of the back would it be?

I maxed out this weekend and my lower back was sore...is this normal or an indication of bad form?

Also, how often do you test your max?

peace

Your lower back will suffer most, but as you get better and stronger, you'll find your whole back will feel sore, even your lats, and in ways you never thought you could be sore!!!

Good luck bro:p :p :p

I recently started too, and I find that back day is the day to do them.
I feel it in my hams a bit, but by far most of it is in my back.

i think it's important to vary it. try a split where you do them on back day. try a split where you do them with quads. try a split where hams are separate from quads and back.

most of the time i've done deads, i've done them on their own hamstring day. i think doing them after squats can be good too. after squats, your lower back and hams will be warmed up, stretched and tight. my pr dead was done after doing squats.

i like deadlifts i do them every friday after physics class. :)

i can now deadlift 325-330.

i think thats nice for my age
