when did you finally "grow up?"

those of you who have any recollection of my postings here over the last several years i am sure have noticed that i have been in a bit of a transitional peroid.... i was reckless and thoughtless for a long time; i belived that "living immediately" was close to perfection. But, a series of events that are anything but flattering (i had a failed cosmetic surgery, got arrested a couple times, fell in love with a 17 year old, drug issues, being robbed several times) forced me to rethink my ways.

I was slightly younger than 26.

How bout you?

I'll tell you when I get there.

What kind of cosmetic surgery was it and what went wrong?

abdominoplasty... it got infected. one morning i woke up in a pool of my own blood. it had exploded.

according to my last g/f, i STILL haven't grown up!!!!!!!!;)

The day that I could wipe my own ass. That was a very proud day for me. I remember my mother saying congratulations little man you are growing up, you know longer have to scream, "Momma come wipe me!" I think i was like 23 maybe 24.

It's cool man sounds like your doin well for your self.Where in oc?I'm in san diego.

I think I grew up too early in my life because of certain situations I had to deal with. So currently I'm trying to "grow down" while I'm still young(17yrs).

I grew up when I stopped caring what other people thought about me.

That being said, I don't condsider myself mature by any means. I still enjoy video games and a good fart joke. :)

You are in San Diego? :fro:

9th grade - 15 years old. I did not and do currently live on my own, but that was the age where I believed I started acting mature and being consistently accused of acting twice my age. When I look back, I'm happy it happened that way because if I had waited till I was older before I started acting "older," I wouldn't be in the state I am today.

I have no doubt that I'd be an average student with an empty bank account, shitload of debt, and shitty job... just like a lot of people I used to know.

I used to live in La Jolla back in 94, pretty close to UTC.. cant remember the street name. Was nice there but I like Sweden better :)

I'd have to say this year.

And Warik....15???? Yeah right.

Watching transformers and Masters of the Universe
on TV ain't exactly the bulwark of maturity.

It's been a gradual process for me, but I've always had more responsiblity than my friends due to both my parents having a handicap. (mom in wheelchair, dad legally blind) Dealing with money, school, jobs, etc..., I'd consider myself "grown up". Dealing with friends, family, relationships.....I still have much to learn.

I dunno about that Fonz, it depends on what you mean by maturity. Does maturity mean that we all have to go out and get blowjobs from our interns/secrataries? I think we all have our own ideas of what entertainment is.

I listened to classical at a young age and still do, but I also watched cartoons like anyone else.

you are partly correct... you would be poorer and have a shitty job, but your grades would still be good. collegiate grades have far more to do with ability than effort. (in most majors, yours included). you might have an std:fro: now, too.

True, but there were other factors that affected how things turned out. One was that I was able to skip my first year of college and get a free ride. If I had to attend all of the bullshit classes of the first year and go through the whole mess, I would have been less willing to go through with the whole thing. As it stands now I wish I could just drop out and start my real life and quit wasting time.

I wake up every Monday morning in the greatest mood after working Thurs + Fri all day and having fun on Sat + Sun, then I come home Wednesday evening absolutely hating the fucking world after 3 days of classes. That shit is not healthy.

I don't think there is any one set definition for maturity, nor is it an easy thing to define. I have some criteria in mind, but they are highly variable.

What is the epitome of maturity? One of those old Supreme Court Justices or something? LOL- I'm sure they even have their moments. I have a feeling that most people don't ever consider themselves mature. Mature always seems like "somebody else". It ties in with that saying that "Normal is what people are until you get to know them." We're always inside our own minds- always around ourselves, so we're aware of all the dumb, selfish, and strange things that we think, say, and sometimes do. We're always left with that nagging suspicion that we're just a little more off than everyone else. Stereotypical maturity is a facade we put up for others whom we don't know too well. :)

On a side not, I've noticed that generally speaking, those who unrelentingly label others as immature are themselves the ones who are lacking the most in that respect.
