Interesting. But it's not that hard to register and it doesn't cost anything for basic membership. I had to register to read the New York Times website, but it was free as well and well worth it. This isn't THAT bad of a thing.

If it makes the board run faster, I'm all for it.
am I missing something? how do you figure making someone log in makes the board faster?

Fewer people hitting the web server and db server means the servers have less to do.

Hence, go faster.

until they decide to register ;) I wouldnt think it would have any affect on DB performance...

Agreed, but not everyone's going to register.

And I'm not the world's biggest web/coding geek, but I'd imagine that every click on a thread hits the database. Granted, posting & searches are undoubtedly more taxing, but every little bit helps.

I don't see why this is a big deal since it doesn't affect us.

all it really is is an effort to get more email addresses.

PJ, hole in the theory of faster EF...

The more people that register, the more spam the server must service and will likely slow things down..

I don't disagree, but I suspect there are a lot of people that will just close their browser instead of going to the trouble of registering.

I don't know how lazy it is.

Look at it this way...someone's doing a google search for information on training or gear, finds Elite, spends 15 minutes here, then gets told they have to register to continue, or discovers that they can't do a search for what they're after.

How many people are going to go back to their google search, and find another board or site to visit?

the spam mail server is entirely different from the web/db servers that run the site on a day-to-day basis.

George sends out, what, 2 emails a month? as opposed to thousands of pages requests a day.

Ok, here some comments;

We do not SPAM -- please do not let that rumor get started -- everyone on our list asked to be there. And the stuff we send is usually pretty good -- like this weeks article by Author L.Rea.

The site is faster and we want to keep it that way. After 15 pages, I think most people know if this site is for them or not and should join -- it takes all of two seconds and it is free -- if not, they should move on to one of the many I hate Elite Fitness sites.

We do need members to join Platinum -- there would be no EliteFitness.com without our Platinum members, so I hope that instead of being jealous of them, we appreciate their contributions here. Better yet, please support the site and consider joining -- this place ain't cheap to run.

As always, I appreciate everyone's comments.

Yes I noticed that the guy called it spam and I didn't correct hjim for the sake of arguing.

But you are right George, you do not send out spam, onlu news related to the site.
