Fear is close to an alien emotion for me but I got startled last night.
I was photogoraphing a reception up in the mountains last night. The ranch kept three wolves and the black ones were very large and were real wolves...should have starred in Hollywood movies. These guys looked like killers and had immense heads and jaws with amazing leg lenght and strides.
I decided to take a stroll in their area well after dark. I trained my camera on the largest black wolf who seemed interested in me and was only a few feet away. At the instant that my flash went off...another wolf ran up and growled at me. Probably thought I was a threat to his buddy since I had him isolated at a distance from the building.
Despite the large fence separating us......the sudden presence and unsavory attidude of the second wolf late at night did startle me.
The moment actually eclipsed the time an Atlantic White Tip charged me....I sensed the shark was just showing off. I never knew the African lion charged me until he hit the end of his chain.....but the tremendous whack of the suddenly taut chain just a couple feet away....did startle me as well. Would have been worse had I seen it.
Wolves, lions, and sharks.............all very cool animals that can easily garner your utmost attention. However the only true terror I have experienced is the sensation of falling from a shoulder of Mt. Evans.
I also fear premature ...................ahhh........well.........
